There are several hotels right at Dulles Airport. I know there's a Hyatt and several Marriots. They will all have airport shuttles so getting to them won't be a problem. When doing your search, look for hotels in Herndon or Reston. Mapquest would be useful for that since you can find things near a location. Vienna/Tyson's Corner is close, but you can be closer.

There is a Summerfield Suites, an Embassy Suites and a Staybridge Suites within 3-4 miles of Dulles. All three have airport shuttles. I agree, no need to send them to Tysons/Vienna to spend the night. If the morning they're leaving is a weekday, they'll be in traffic hell.

There is also a Marriott on iad grounds
plus a Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn with shuttles on Rte 28 about four miles from the airport. If I remember correctly the Hampton and Holiday have Sterling addresses. There are also hotels nearby in Chantilly. Since IAD has a Washington, DC address, the mMarriott may be listed in DC.
