Hotel in or around Fairfax, Washington

I Will be travelling from England to attend a wedding in Febuary 2004 and am looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the Fairfax, Washington region. Would be grateful for any help?

If you really mean Fairfax in the STATE of Washington, in the northwest corner of the US, that's near Mount Ranier National Park, and you might be best-off asking the local family members for suggestions.

However, I have a suspicion that you're referring to Fairfax in the state of Virginia, near Washington, D.C. If so, please clarify, and let us know whether you need to be near public trnsportation.

Klafrog, assuming you are looking for something in or near the Fairfax, Virginia that is a few miles from the national capital at Washington, D.C., for a moderately priced but nice and well located choice I'd try the Fair Oaks Holiday Inn on Lee-Jackson Highway or the Best Western Fairfax on Chain Bridge Road, both in Fairfax. The Holiday Inn and Best Western are reliable middle market chains in the U.S. I have stayed at the Fair Oaks and found it well above the standard of most Holiday Inns. I suspect the same is true of the Best Western Fairfax in relation to others in its chain, since it has been very recently closed for several months and totally refurbished. Both of these hotels have easy highway access to the city of Washington as well as to Fairfax.

If in addition to Fairfax, you type these additional Virginia cities into your search engine, you will come up with many other choices just a few minutes from the town of Fairfax, all of them in Fairfax County: Tysons Corner, McLean, Vienna, Falls Church, Reston, Herndon, and Chantilly. However, you will find most of them more pricey than the two mentioned above, some of them because they are true luxury hotels, and others only because they are closer to office centers or Dulles airport and have more of a business traveler, expense account clientele. Your dollar will go further in Fairfax than in these other towns, because it is the most predominantly residential of them.

Fairfax county is very big - it would really help to know what part of the county you'd prefer to be in. Close to the Potomac River and below Alexandria, near Springfield, Close to 7 Corners, Fairfax City, Tysons corner or McLean?? The place is huge and you could spend at least an hour trying to get from one end to the other.

Where will the wedding be?

I agree with LN. Fairfax City/County is a very big place.

What airport are you flying into? Do you need to be near public transportation to get to/from airport to hotel? Will you be meeting & staying with friends? Will you have a rental car?

In February 2004 you should be able to get a nice place for under $75 per night.

I like the fairly new Hilton Garden Inn on Fair Ridge Drive. There are a wide range of choices in the area -- if you provide a more specific location you should be able to get lots of suggestions.

I don't know of any place in the Burke area. Are you going to have a rental car? Do you need to be near public transportation? Where's the church? How are you going to be getting around?

Go to Hotels.com and type in Fairfax, VA as the city, and you will find several places out near Dulles Airport (I'm assuming that is where you will be flying into). The Comfort Suites or the ExtendedStays seem very reasonable.

If the church is in Burke, then the closest hotel would be the Best Western on Chain Bridge Rd ( Rte 123) in Faifax City. This would hold true if the church was in Fairfax Station also.

You could also look into the Ritz Carlton in Tysons Corner ( next to the Galleria Mall) or The Hilton at Tysons Corner .. BOTH hotels are located in the city of McClean and the Hilton has a shuttle that will take you back and forth to the metro to get into DC and it's free...

Also the Hyatt at Crystal City is close to Burke....

I don't think the Ritz or the Hilton would be reasonably priced unless you could get a special discount for the weekend.

Crystal City has numerous hotels in the area, but it's a hike to Burke. The Best Western on 123 would probably be both convenient and reasonably priced.

Budman, Are you from that area? Forty years ago the town of Burke consisted of Brown's Gulf Station, a general store, fire house, post office and a church. Braddock road was two lanes, and the only subdivisions were Kings Park and red Fox Forest. The beltway wasn't completely open yet. Di

I grew up in Alexandria.

Ex-outlaws lived in Kings Park. I remember the 2 lanes of Braddock Road very well. It's now 4-5 in each direction in some portions.

I've lived in Burke and Kings Park West while stationed at the Pentagon. My daughter now lives in Kings Park West & son in Manassas so I get down to that area at least once a month. It's amazing how much it has built up.
