Driving time -- Solvang to Monterey/Carmel?

Driving time -- Solvang to Monterey/Carmel?
Hi all-
I know there's lots of info on this board, but I'm still having a little bit of trouble estimating times & distances.
We will be driving from Solvang to Carmel on Friday, July 7. We want to drive on 101 until we reach San Luis Obispo to save some time, and then get onto 1 and stay on that the rest of the way. I guess we know to expect 30-35 mph and we do want to be able to take adavantage of some pull outs along the way for breaks and pictures (but no hikes or long stops). We don't plan to really get out of the car until Carmel/Monterey etc. since we'll be stopping there.
Can anyone give me some distance/time estimates for this? We're hoping to leave Solvang early enough to get to Carmel for a 5 pm dinner. Too early?
