driving into JFK airport

I'll be driving into JFK from the south (Phila) and returning a rental car there.

I've been in the airport several times but never driven in. Any hints, tips, problems I should know about? Thanks.

You will probably take the Verranzano Bridge to the Belt Parkway. The Belt can get very backed up. Leave yourself plenty of time. Make sure you know exactly where the rental return is. You will definitely have to take either a shuttle bus or the AirTrain to your terminal. Here's a link with good info for you

I'll second making sure to leave yourself enough time. The traffic getting through Brooklyn can be murder depending on time of day. Fast would be 2 hours, more likely is 3 and possibly more.

Once at JFK there are signs for rental car return clearly marked. From rental car it's a 5min train ride to the terminal 1, and about another 5min to loop all the way around to terminal 8/9 (AA). Trains come every 4min or so. QED.
