Driving (have to) to Boston - Hotels w/ reasonable parking?
To Boston this summer and won't know ahead of time if there will be 3 or 4 of us so no cheap airline. Any recommendations on hotels w/ reasonable parking or those hotels outside of Boston with good subway access. Looking at about $150.00 (hopefully including any parking fee). Thanks in advance.

I have 2 suggestions, first most of the hotels will not be full, so you can pick up one of the discount hotel booklets at all the rest stops and call around to find one. There are coupons and you can find hotels in the book for as little as $59 a night.
Also I would suggest the Sheraton RIGHT ON the Mass Pike as a good location and I think staying there the parking is free or minimal charge. The location is just west of downtown Boston and we found it to be very convenient.

Once you figure MBTA, commuter rail or the like into downtown Boston from an outlying area for 4 people, (MBTA would be $10 for RT), you have to consider that figure when you compute cost of parking. (If parking is $20/day at a hotel, it really only costs $10 more than taking MBTA from suburb).
If you have to drive from hotel to MBTA station and then pay to park, add that.
Then figure in if the hassle of commuting in is worth the money you will save - figure that you can't go back to your hotel mid-afternoon to regroup, shower, change clothing (which you may want to do if it is hot) - and then you have to double the cost of MBTA for that day.

Not sure what rates you can get this year for your specific dates, but under the circumstance, I'd recommend trying the Midtown Hotel (more a motor inn) which offers moderate (by comparison) rates and free parking (the only hotel in the city with free parking) right near Copley Square, or the Marriott Quincy with free parking, a short walk from a subway station, a quick ride into the city. Both are great for "family" accomodations.
Be advised that these used to be well kept secrets, so rates may not still be so favorable.
Highly recommend you shop diligently forthwith for your dates.

I booked a room at the Best Western on Commonwealth that has free parking, a free cont. breakfast and is fairly close to a MTBA stop for early July at $107. Have not stayed before so I can't tell you how it is.You might try Hotwire but I noticed the hotels that I got for 50-75 $ in the winter/spring in the city are now $150 & up
Good Luck

Please note that the Best Western Terrace in on Commonwealth is actually in Brighton, and the closest MBTA station is Beaconsfield, a half mile walking, though it is on the Green Line which will take you into Boston.
Many chain motels/hotels with "Boston" in the name are NOT located within the city of Boston. You must carefully check a map when booking.

Brighton has been part of Boston for over 100 years. And IIRC, the Green Line trolley goes right up Commonwealth Ave and stops at Washington St. just a few hundred feet form the hotel. That said, it is indeed not in a convenient or toursity area of the city.
