Driving from Vegas Nov 5, LAX 5pm Nov 9. Which route would you take?
This will be the last part of our 6 week long adventure. We have been to the Grand Canyon before, but we flew from Vegas and back last time. We are thinking of driving out there for 'another look' and to enjoy the scenery on the way there, then start heading back to LA. Mapquest tells me its 4.5 hours to the G/canyon, so I guess we will need to stay out there somewhere. When I first started planning this trip I remember reading that accommodation could be an issue. Any ideas of where to book into for the one night out there?
Love to hear your thoughts on which way we should go, for diverse scenery and 'nice' places to stop for the night.

Forgive my confusion, but Nov 5 to Nov 9 means you are driving out from LA to Las Vegas on Nov 5th?
Or are you going to be in Las Vegas already on Nov 5th?
Just trying to understand how many days you have for this portion of your trip.

There is plenty to see in five days - four days if you are reserving the 9th for the drive from Las Vegas to LA.
Besides the Grand Canyon, there's Zion and Bryce National Parks to the north.
Or you could loop around to Page, visit Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell, then head east to the Navajo National Monument and then then south to Chinle and Canyon de Chelly. Lastly head south and west to the Painted Desert and thence back to Las Vegas.
There's plenty to see and do in that beautiful part of the US. Just depends a bit on how much time you will spend at the Grand Canyon, on whether you want to hike/ride down to the bottom of the canyon or not.

Sorry it made perfect sense in 'my head'!!!!
We will be spending 5 days in Vegas (with a car). We will check out around 10am and head for the Grand Canyon. I am proposing one (or 2 if you think) nights accommodation somewhere out there. Then on the 6th we will leave the Canyon area and start heading to LA. Our plane departs late on the 9th. Not wanting to spend anytime in LA, so can stay outside of LA and drive in on the 9th. (car would need to be back by 5pm on the 9th)
Hope thats clearer

The fast route, which I would not recommend, is AZ-64 south to I-40; I-40 west to Barstow; I-15 south to I-10; I-10 west to LAX.
A much preferred scenic route would be AZ-64 south to I-40; I-40 east to I-17/US-89; US-89 south to Sedona and overnight or 2 nights if you prefer.
If you only spend one night in Sedona, then US-89 Southwest to Cottonwood; and US-89Alt to Jerome for another night. Then, from Jerome, back east to I-17; I-17 south to to AZ-74; AZ-74 west to US-60; US-60 southwest to I-10; I-10 west to LAX.
If you spend two nights in Sedona I would head back to I-17, then south to I-10, then west to LAX. In that case, I'd leave early on the last day to be sure you get back to LAX by 5:00 PM. This post does not say when you are going. If it is mid-October or later, you'll pick up an hour on the trip back. If it is during daylight savings time, the time in AZ and CA is the same.
I hope this helps.
