Driving down the Coast - Hotel help needed!

Hello everyone,

We are taking a trip to Oregon and need some help. We will be starting out in Portland and taking two days to explore the coast with our final destination being Coos Bay. We our looking for an upscale, cozy, romantic place to spend the night. Price is not an issue and it must be near the beach. Stephanie Inn in Cannon Beach looked wonderful but it is too close to Portland and ideally we need to be about half way to Coos Bay. I am from the area but moved away almost ten years ago and I'm a little rusty! Any suggestions on lodging for the night and on things that are must see's on the drive down would be great!

Many thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel.... Cannon Beach is a great stop... it is only about 1 1/2 hours drive from Portland though and if you wanted a longer drive... you might go down as far as Yachats and stay at the SeaQuest Bed & Breakfast. My husband and I stayed there several years ago and my parents have been there as well. Go to www.seaq.com to view their waterfront/beachfront place. It is a nice stay! Some rooms have in room jacuzzi tubs and the breakfast is amazing!!! You'll also enjoy fresh baked cookies during the day and a wonderful expansive deck with views that are perfect!

Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reply Maria! I will definitely check out SeaQuest Bed & Breakfast. I just happened to stumble across the Channel House in Depoe Bay. Anyone have any thoughts?

In Neport, check out Starfish Point and definitely have dinner at April's. In Yachats Overleaf Lodge is a good choice, but I don't think there is a good place for dinner there (we were turned off by food and service at tauted La Serre).

Newport (Nye Beach area),
 Yachats (Overleaf Lodge),

We also like Overleaf, but while it is very clean & nice, it is not overly "romantic". there is an upstairs suite with a whirlpool tub, though. We have had dinner at La Serre many times & it has always been good.

We've always eaten at La Serre as well... when we visit this area. We have always had great service and food. It has been a bit since we've been there... so maybe it's changed? Nevertheless... you won't be disappointed with the SeaQuest. Just be prepared... the owners are a riot. They kind of banter back and forth and have quite the sense of humor. I got along great with them and enjoyed what they brought to the ambience.
The room we stayed in was the twig bed room with the jacuzzi tub. Loved it!
