Driving Directions/Fenway Park

Yes I know, mapquest mapquest!

I've heard about this Big Dig and was wondering if anyone has any tips for getting to/parking at/returning from Fenway Park on a Friday afternoon/evening. Leaving from Rhode Island and heading north into the city...best route? Any secrets?

Don't drive into the game. Park at the Riverside T station in Newton, just off I-95 and take the T to either "Fenway" or "Kenmore Square". You'll be glad you did!

I agree with train & T. If you check out the Red Sox website, there is info on the free shuttle they offer as well now. It runs before and after the game from a block from Fenway and takes you to Ruggles Stn. We did this a couple of w/ends ago, and it worked pretty well. (check out mbta.com for train & T options)

If you're stuck on driving, there are parking lots right across from Fenway, but they're bloody expensive. If you're going to park, you might want to park at the McDonald's lot a block away. It's $25(?) but all the proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House.

don't drive to the park, but consider parking in Brookline and taking the green line in a few stops. Take Rt 95 to Rt 9 East and try to park near Brookline Village. You can take the T from there (just two stops).

Joe,
I would definitely take the commuter train from the South Attleboro train station to Fenway. It's very affordable. However, if you must drive, I recommend driving route 95 north to route 128 north to route 1 north through Dedham and Jamaica Plain which leads you right to Fenway.

Ken: The commuter train goes all the way in to Fenway? Or is there a stop where we have to get off and switch to the T?

Thanks everyone!

Yes, the Worcester branch of the commuter rail has a stop at Yawkey Way, which I believe it only stops at when there's a game. Check out hte route and schedule at www.mbta.com

Joe,
I went to Fenway a few years ago via the commutr train and it brought me right to the ballpark. However that was a Saturday game. I'm not sure if they provide this service for a Friday nite game. Their website should have all the info you need. Have fun!
Ps...However, the way the Sox are playing right now, maybe you should save your money.

The Worcester commuter does stop at Yawkey Way on game day (everyday now for the commuter rail passengers).

The commuter rail can be picked up in Newton at the West Newton, Auburndale, or Newtonville stations.

I wish I could give you exact directions to those stations but I take the train in from Natick and am not sure of the best way to navigate you in- maybe a fellow commuter in fodorland could help...

The Providence/Attleboro branch of the commuter rail does NOT go to the Yawkey stop. But you can get off that line at the Ruggles station, exit at the Forsyth Street entrance, and there's a free shuttle to Fenway Park.

The ONLY train that stops at Yawkey Station is the Worcester commuter rail.
Other stops on that line include:

Worcester, Grafton, Southboro, Framingham, W. Natick, Natick, Wellesley Hills, Wellesley Farms, W. Newton, Auburndale & Newtonville-

It is a great way to get to/from a game
