JFK is on Long Island. The only way to get there fron NJ is via at least two bridges or a bridge and tunnel. All routes cost something.

I don;t know of any way of doing it without paying at least for the bridge or tunnel into Manhattan. After that you could go to the 59th st bridge (free) and take that into Queens. That way you would avoid the toll for the Midtown tunnell or the Triborough Bridge - but you have to drive all through Manhattan coming and going - and add - I would guess - one to two hours to your trip.

Is it really worth it to save a few $?

I'm confused - were you somehow under the impression that life is free? You used the services you need to pay the price

If you don;t want to pay for parking just keep circling until the person you are picking up - I presume - turns up. Oh - forgot - that will use up gas. Well - there you are again - life isn;t free.

You could have let whoever you picked up find their own way to your house - that would have been cheaper!
