Drive from Santa Fe to Yellowstone

Husband, 18-month-old and I are taking a last minute camping trip to Yellowstone next week. Anyone have recommendations on whether it would be more expedient (interesting or attractive) to go I-25 through WY or H15 through Salt Lake (from home - Santa Fe)? We would like to find a camping spot that would enable us to explore Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, and would appreciate recommendations on that as well. We're adventure travelers, but are on a limited time schedule for our trip - 10 days or so. Would appreciate any words of wisdom!

The straight route up to WY (then cut over to, say, Thermopolis) seems most direct, but remember I25 goes through Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Cheyenne--could add time to your trip if you got caught in rush hours!

The milage from SF to Yellowstone through SLC looks to be 100 miles shorter than going I-25, but maybe going the interstate would cut time off the trip even with the extra miles? I'm also somewhat concerned with the drive itself, since it's a decent-length one. I'd sacrifice a shorter trip for much better scenery.
