Drilling down to Kauai!

OK I can't help it: Corporate speak melds into my vacation planning,

We will be in Kauai in late May for the celebration of our 40th Anniversary,' Will be in a condo in Princeville area. What I would like to know is:

Best car rental deal, and which agency.

Helicopter tours: from the north shore. Which one do you recommend, and do we need a reservation in advance, if so, how long in advance.

Also, tour of Napali coast from the north shore: AM or PM tour? How far in advance for a reservation? Would like to differentiate between viewing and snorkelingl

Also plan the 4 wheeler ATV tour in Piopu. Do you agree?

Any other recommendations.

Thanks in advance

What does "drilling down" to something mean. I don't work in the corporate world.

Can't really help you with any tour info as all we do when we go is drill ourselves into the beach and veg.

cheryl, the best rate I have found on a car is thru Costco. We have rented a Jeep Wrangler for 2 weeks for a grand total of $468.02. This is thru Alamo, but other agencies you can also use with Costco. You might also check aarp and see what kind of rates you get thru them. You should know that it is tons of fun to tool around in a convertible on Kauai.

Can't help you on northshore outfitters, but our first time out we used Inter-Island down in Port Allen that flys with no doors, and we used Holoholo Charters for the Napali Coast Sunset Cruise.

WHY KAUAI? Oh nooooooooooooooo.

Billlaaaaay...you are more corporate than you know!

We've used Priceline for our car rentals the past few trips.
Malibu's, HHR's mid and full sized cars for $18/$20ish per day.

Def do an ATV run.
We did one that started in Poipu a few years ago and the ride THROUGH the mountain was awesome. Plus you come out in the area where they filmed Jurassic Park. We also drove up to the resevoir that had a 360' over Poipu right before sunset. Whales jumpin', clouds making the sun rays looks like lasers.

We took another one that started in Hanamaulu and got to swim in a natural pool with a small waterfall.

I'm still trying to edit and post my pix from the last Dec/Jan trip but the only activity we did was hiking up a bar stool every day.

Ahhhhhhh.....
How many more days? (Not YOU I'2 ).

If you want to read the reviews of the different helicopter tours and Napali tours as well as all other Kauai tours and restaurants, look in the travel guide book "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" by Doughty. The advice in this guide is very accurate and will enhance your trip.

You mean the same Doughty that promotes trespassing to the masses? That Doughty?

Or the Doughty that is trying to give Columbus and Cook a run for their money in terms of 'discovering' places and then naming them?

Or the Doughty.........mmmfmfmfememfmm

Kal, this little guy is as unattractive on you as it it on billy. And, ha ha....it is so appropriate to tell you that we will be there in 69 more days!!!!!!!!!!!

rnc, we did the atv thing thru Kipu Ranch Adventures and it was fun.

I hate to copycat Kal, but this time we are going to do the same kind of hiking he did. And further more, I'm gonna phone one of you every day and rub it in, rub it in!!!!

69 baby

Or the Doughty who is laughing all the way to the bank?

I got find that picture of my Ultimate Book burning and post it.

Don't be a one-note-samba. Read as much about the island in as many books as you can and then decide. Overated does not begin to describe the "ultimate" series of books.

I was happy with the Costco quotes I was getting until I discovered carrentalhawaii.com I'm much happier with their lower quotes.

Bill, if it makes you feel any better, I'm as lost as you on this "drilling down" thing.

You might want to try Hawaii Discount Car Rentals, they have the best rates that we could find for April. Our rate is less than $200 for the week, everything else was at least $225.

We really like Inter Island Helicopter doors off waterfall tour (so much we've done it twice).

I must have the wrong link for Hawaii Discount Car Rentals. The one I have gone to wants me to go ahead and put all of my cc info in. Am I just hitting the wrong buttons?

iceeu2, that's what I found and didn't want to do that. But I did once thinking I was getting a quote and next thing I knew I got a confirmation of a reservation -- higher than others -- so I canceled it without problem. But it seemed like a dumb way to operate -- try to get a quote and they automatically book you.

But you don't do that with carrentalHawaii.com. You get the quote from them for each individual company. You choose the one you want, and then you deal directly with that company -- and don't prepay.
