Eating dinner in some of the better (I hope) SF restaurants (Old House, Santa Cafe, Gerinimo). How casual or dressy do people get? Thanks

I've been going to Santa Fe for years now. And I've been to all of the restaurants mentioned and have never worn anything but jeans. Clean jeans, but jeans nonetheless. With a nice long sleeve shirt. No T-shirts, no shorts, no sneakers. No baseball caps.

Santa Fe is a fairly laidback, casual place. The restaurants are excellent. And you can dress up as much as you'd like and you won't stand out. There are some very wealthy people in and around Santa Fe.

By the by, my wife tends to dress much nicer than I do. She is always very fashionable. Perhaps, that's why I'm allowed to get by wearing jeans.

I did see some people wearing suits in Santa Cafe (I think was the restaurant), but I came to find out they were lawyers who had just won a big case and were celebrating. Those were the ONLY suits I saw in any restaurant.

In santa Fe the women tend to wear southwestern style clothing and I do mean very, VERY nice southwestern clothing accented with beading and turquoise jewelry. A few wore a gaucho type hat (have no idea why) but they looked good, wearing expensive casual clothing.

I agree. We have been to Santa Fe twice and eaten at many restaurants and we go fairly casual, I am usually a little more dressed up than hubby.

I agree with the above postings. Santa Fe is casual - but not sloppy. If jeans then accompanied with a sport coat for the nicer places (Geronimo & Santa Cafe) and for Old House I wouldn't wear jeans. When we went most of the men had slacks and jackets. Fun dressy casual clothes for the nicer places and jeans & boots for the others! Have fun - going there tomorrow!!

Jeans and a nice shirt fit in just about anywhere... Santa Fe is very classy, but in a sort of understated way. I think most of the people wearing a lot of overly southwestern stuff are tourists. Just leave your souvenior shirts at home... they seem to look tacky in that town.
