Drained Riverwalk

I am going to find myself in San Antonio this weekend. I was excitedly looking forward to get a chance to see the riverwalk - only to find out they are going to have the thing drained!

I have a very limited time to do anything, and I was wondering if, with the riverwalk drained, most of the activity in the area would be dampened. Is it still worth making this part of my sightseeing or should I choose something else?

The River isn't completely drained, rather lowered so workers can remove debris, etc. It's definitely worth a look-see regardless, imo. The clean-up should be complete by January 9th followed by the Riverwalk Mud Festival (which occurs after the water level returns to normal). For more info, check out...

Make sure you check the weather predictions before you leave. My daughter and i went there a few years ago Feb 1 st--weather had been in 60's--day we arrived it dipped to 30's and we about froze..All the stores already had their "summer" clothes--we ended up buying hooded sweat shirt at sports store... Day we left for home it was 70....
Hope you have a great time...

Well, I got down there Friday night and decided to take a walk down the Riverwalk. Sure enough, it was drained, but it really was not that bad. There was some water still left in it, though not a ton. Problem was all the fountains weren't flowing, so that cut down on the atmosphere. Still, it was pretty special.

So, following day I ended up taking several people there, telling them the river was drained, and when we got there - it was filled! Apparently they filled it a little early, and all the fountains were flowing again and it looked really great. Unfortunately the boats were not yet running. While it is much much better with water in it, I would still recommend to people to go see it even if it is not filled.
