Downtown Miami or South Beach?

First trip to Miami. Trying to decide between downtown Miami and South Beach hotels for a Saturday to Monday stay. We want good restaurants within walking distance. We are not nightlife people, but want interesting walkable surroundings. Which one would be best the best choice?

Beach.

Downtown Miami is within reach of many interesting places, but it is not walkable to any of them.

Hi texhoust,

I agree with ackislander. South Beach. Since I was catching a bus from downtown to Key West, I decided to stay in Downtown Miami when I was last there. While I enjoyed myself downtown more than I thought I would since there were some good restaurants within walking distance of my hotel and the Bayside Marketplace had a kind of electric energy that night, South Beach just has a lot more choices of restaurants and activity generally.

Have a great trip! Daniel
