Downtown hotels in NYC

We're visiting my girlfriend's sister the weekend of October 25th, and we're looking for a nice hotel within walking distance. She lives in the East Village on East 6th Street (between 1st Ave. and Ave. A). We've been to NY tons of times (I grew up across the river in NJ), so we're not looking to tour or anything. Just wondering what's in that area for about $150-$220 or so per night that you'd recommend. Thanks.

Not too near but The Grammercy Park Hotel is kind of close, charming, and reasonably priced.

Washington Sq hotel is in the village right near Washington Square park. It's a very nice location, probably an OK hotel. Would be in your price range. I think there is a newish Holiday Inn somewhere on the lower east side that would also be convenient to the E. Village.

I believe the "newish" place is a Holiday inn Express and it's at the corner of Houston and Second Ave(think it's Second). Right next to Yonah Schimmel's Knishes and the new Sunshine Rialto movie theatre. Convenient location for LES activities and lots of pedestrian trafic so it's perfectly safe to come and go late at night.

It's a Howard Johnsons, not Holiday Inn.
