Downtown Denver Hotel Question

My family and I are traveling to Denver, CO for a visit to the UC Denver downtown campus. I've found two hotel choices in the same price range, the Hyatt at the Convention Center and the Denver Westin. Both properties seem very nice and conveniently located, a short walk to the UC campus.

Any thoughts or preferences on these properties? Is one better located in terms of access to restaurants, shopping, transportation, etc. Thanks in advance for your help.

I think the Hyatt is slightly closer to the campus, but the Westin is closer to more restaurants. It's really a toss-up.

Thanks PeaceOut. This will be our first visit to Denver so your answer is helpful. I was leaning towards the Westin rather than a convention center site, and if it is closer to shops and restaurants, that may be our best choice. Our UC visit will be to tour the downtown campus and see the dorms, so a couple of hours there at most.

The Westin is connected to the Tabor Center, an indoor mall. But I don't know what shops are open there now, as retailers were struggling and underwent significant turnover. The Cheesecake Factory is in Tabor. I think The Palm is in the Westin itself (tres expensive). The Westin is near the 16th Street outdoor mall, where there is a free shuttle running its length. You will also be close to Larimer Square and LoDo for shops and restaurants. I think you will like it.

PS. UCD is gaining in popularity with students, as I have seen lately. DS has friends who started at CU Boulder but transferred to UCD. I finished my MA at UCD many years ago. DS says his friends are happy with the apartment rent they have found in Denver, too, versus Boulder.
