Personally, I think it would be a healthy walk to go to Fashion Valley, but probably a quick cab ride. I looked up the address of the Doubletree (1515 Hotel Circle South) and put it into mapquest to confirm that it was where I thought it was. It's on the south side of the freeway, and the mall is north of the freeway. I'm not even sure which route you would take to walk there (I'm sure there's access, but I've only driven). The closest lodging to the mall would be the Town & Country, I believe.

You can walk from the Doubletree Club Hotel to Fashion Valley. Someone at the hotel will give you directions, but it's very simple. The road goes under the freeway, but it's not a direct route, so it might be quite a hike. The hotel may even have a shuttle that could take you and pick you up.

Andrew - it bugged me all the way to work this morning - then I realized that you were referring to the Doubletree at Hazard Center, which is right on the trolley line. That would be a great place to stay if you don't have a car because of it's central location in Mission Valley, and the fact the the trolley runs right behind it. Also, Hazard Center is right next door with restaurants and a movie theater.

Sorry can't ring (well could but would cost a fortune) am coming from New Zealand hopefully in April next year. WE try and avoid driving as much as we can. Because we love walking and also because we don't like driving on the "wrong" side of the road!!! Any suggestions for a cheap suite near shops and sights?

I have stayed at the Doubletree Mission Valley and while it is not in downtown, it is right in front of a trolley stop which makes it extremely convenient to get to and from town. There is also a movie theater and a few restaurants that you can walk to. I enjoyed this hotel!

Sorry, should have made myself more clear. We are a couple with 5 year old coming from New Zealand next April and staying 6 night (at the end of our trip) in San Diego. We would prefer a suite (but not an expensive one, i.e Embassy Suites in Downtown) and fairly near things so we can walk most places or a cheap cab or shuttle or public transport. Can anyone help. Doubletree hazard doesn't seem to want to give a rate and they don't seem to have suites.
