Doubletree Suites, San Diego

Are these suites within easy walking distance (i.e. 2ks) from Fashion Mall. Will not have a car and would like to walk there for some last minute shopping if we can.

Personally, I think it would be a healthy walk to go to Fashion Valley, but probably a quick cab ride. I looked up the address of the Doubletree (1515 Hotel Circle South) and put it into mapquest to confirm that it was where I thought it was. It's on the south side of the freeway, and the mall is north of the freeway. I'm not even sure which route you would take to walk there (I'm sure there's access, but I've only driven). The closest lodging to the mall would be the Town & Country, I believe.

You can walk from the Doubletree Club Hotel to Fashion Valley. Someone at the hotel will give you directions, but it's very simple. The road goes under the freeway, but it's not a direct route, so it might be quite a hike. The hotel may even have a shuttle that could take you and pick you up.

Well...how about calling the front desk at the hotel and just asking them?

I think I have been past the hotel and I do seem to recall it is walkable. The hotel is right on the trolley line, too, is it not?

Calling the front desk is a good idea. I'd ask about a shuttle too.

The Doubletree isn't on the trolley line though. The line heads west out of Fashion Valley to the Morena stop and then turns south to Old Town.

Andrew - it bugged me all the way to work this morning - then I realized that you were referring to the Doubletree at Hazard Center, which is right on the trolley line. That would be a great place to stay if you don't have a car because of it's central location in Mission Valley, and the fact the the trolley runs right behind it. Also, Hazard Center is right next door with restaurants and a movie theater.

That would be a long walk. Take a cab or see if they have a shuttle bus that can take you and drop you off.

Sorry can't ring (well could but would cost a fortune) am coming from New Zealand hopefully in April next year. WE try and avoid driving as much as we can. Because we love walking and also because we don't like driving on the "wrong" side of the road!!! Any suggestions for a cheap suite near shops and sights?

I have stayed at the Doubletree Mission Valley and while it is not in downtown, it is right in front of a trolley stop which makes it extremely convenient to get to and from town. There is also a movie theater and a few restaurants that you can walk to. I enjoyed this hotel!

Sorry, should have made myself more clear. We are a couple with 5 year old coming from New Zealand next April and staying 6 night (at the end of our trip) in San Diego. We would prefer a suite (but not an expensive one, i.e Embassy Suites in Downtown) and fairly near things so we can walk most places or a cheap cab or shuttle or public transport. Can anyone help. Doubletree hazard doesn't seem to want to give a rate and they don't seem to have suites.

The Doubletree at Hazard Center doesn't have suites. What do you mean by "doesn't seem to want to give a rate"? Do you mean April 2005 or 2006?

tina1 Feb 28th, 2005 10:32 PM

Sorry April 2006. Which is probably a very good reason why won't give a rate!!!
