What do I think of Seattle? That's the question?

Well let's just say I moved here 30-some years ago... to try it out for a year or two... and never left.

But December/January I don't think very highly of it -lol

Er, just looking at that article should give you a clue about whether it applies to January. (No, no it does not.)

There’s a reason January is Seattle’s Low season. It doesn’t have much going for it. And unlike other cities, Seattle doesn’t have great “city” stuff like major museums. It’s very much a city of scenery and outdoor rec. If you don’t mind the cold, I’d go to Chicago, NYC DC, or Boston.

i like the southern California idea... San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, even out to Palm Springs. Not sure how cheap you could do that for. Going anywhere around the holidays usually is more expensive.

Finally it's going to be NOLA, most likely. Thanks y'all!

So, you're in Texas, and you are planning to drive from upstate New York (how will you get from Texas to New York?) to Maine for Christmas (Road trip with kids tips). Then you are returning from Maine to Texas (somehow), in time to go to NOLA after Christmas? All of this as "budget travel?"

I thought you were going on a road trip to Maine with your kids per your other thread

Instead you are flying to New Orleans alone? Interesting...

What's your relationship to the Real Deal website you keep posting?

they’re not her kids so I thought she was either weighing her options or just setting off solo afterwards.

but I didn’t realize she’d posted that stupid link in both threads lol. I thought it was odd it showed up in this thread—I mean, it’s a lame article, and not even relevant to this time of year. Suspicion confirmed😂

Glad you people are playing private detectives and patting yourself on the back about how clever you are. And nice to insult other people's intelligence and reading taste. Do you seriously think she owns that website and is getting money somehow from posting that link? And has been on Fodors for months making various posts without mentioning it lying in wait? For what?

Lots of people read that website, actually.

There isn't any reason in the world she couldn't do a family road trip with sisters to Maine and then want a cheap "real" vacation in early January. Why would that be so impossible? Lots of people wouldn't consider a family car trip a real vacation.

I'm not playing anything just reading what has been posted. I found it curious the two trips weren't ever mentioned together. I don't care if people are shilling for their own blogs or websites.

If you tie the two trips together why wouldn't you go from TX to Maine then directly to New Orleans in a triangle since the timing is within the same period instead of making it two separate trips?

I don’t care either, but Christina—there are some patterns that show up suspiciously often. And when a poster posts a link to a site in two threads that are a little odd to begin with...well, it’s natural to be curious.

(I wouldn’t insult anyone’s reading, but good grief, the articles in there are more or less clickbait ...like, oh, 75% of all travel articles on the web. Who has ever needed a checklist of things to take on a road trip with kids? Especially kids that aren’t even the OP’s)

I'm glad that you're glad.

OP has been on Fodors for 3 months and has made 11 posts, 8 of which are on the two threads she's started. That's not exactly a prolific contributor. I have no problem with people being suspicious about her motives especially given the two links are from the same website, contain little information beyond what's easily available with a simple google search, and the one in this thread isn't even particularly relevant to the topic.

Maybe she's real, maybe she isn't. Time will tell. In the meantime, perhaps dial back the faux outrage. One person saying "stupid link" doesn't equal "insulting someone's intelligence and reading taste". It IS a stupid link given that this topic is post-Christmas travel and the link is about fall friendly destinations.
