Do you need a car in Ft Lauderdale?

If you plan on spending your time in the beach/Las Olas Boulevard area, you won't need a car. If you decide you want to venture out, you could rent a car for a day and head west for a trip to the everglades, if that is your cup of tea. The Water Taxi is a great mode of transportation in the Ft. Lauderdale area, and you will be within walking distance of the Water Taxi. You can catch it at the Bahia Cabana or walk a little farther to their home base just north of the Radisson Bahia Mar.
FYI: Parking at the MHB is close to $20/day for valet parking and a little less for self parking. This may be the deal breaker for the decision to rent a car.

Thank you so much for the great advice. The $20/day to park a car I may not even use is def the deal breaker especially since there are other options. We're just looking to relax by day then have some nice dinners at night...then venture out for some drinks/dancing.

Don't miss a cruise on the Carrie B during the day. They leave from the Las Olas Blvd area several times a day. If you are interested, I'll look in tomorrow's paper for a 2 for 1 coupon. This will save you about $15. It's a great tour of the intracoastal waterway and all the mansions. They also take you into Port Everglades, so a Saturday tour is nice because you get to see all the cruise ships in port before they head out to sea.
The Water Taxi can take you to just about any place you want to go. They also have a multi-day pass for the time you'll be in the area. I've seen a new tour bus, too "Ride the Duck" which is an amphibious craft that takes you on the water and the roadways. Interesting concept. It's fairly new, but I've seen them in the downtown area. They might have a nice tour. If I can find any info on them, I'll come back and post the URL.
Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help you have an enjoyable stay.

We did not need a car, the water taxi is the way to go! $5 all day plus at night it is a beautiful way to see the homes and yahts (sp?) all lit up!
If you have any other questions, we were there in Feb and loved Fort Lauderdale. Post and I will send you my email.

Question for Heartburn3 . . . My husband and I will be in Fort Lauderdale in a week and a half and are just interested in relaxing. The Carrie B sounds nice. Would we be able to get the 2for1 coupon in the paper any day? We won't be renting a car, so I'm looking for things to do that won't require a vehicle. Thanks.

The Carrie B's website offers a discount coupon, but it's only for a few dollars off on the tickets. You can print that one out in case you don't find a 2 for 1 coupon in the paper. If it's in the paper, it's usually in the entertainment/showtime section of the Friday Sun-Sentinel. If you have a concierge where you are staying, they might have the 2/1 coupons available, but I'm not certain of this. I'll keep my eyes open for a coupon. If I find it, I'll let you know and we can arrange a way for me to get it to you. I always enjoy a drive to the beach area. I might even be able to mail it to you. Feel free to email me at [email protected] to make arrangements. This way I can also let you know if I find it.
