Do they drink beer in Hawaii?
We're rather simple folks and like to drink Beer at the beach. Is it legal on the beaches
in Hawaii (Honolulu/Waikiki) ? Do they have
a national Beer? speaking of --are beverages expensive in Hawaii? We're staying at the Radisson Prince at Waikiki is it really crowded in this area?
Any further advice will be great ? you can e-mail too at mailto:[email protected]

Did you really expect to get the kind of information that you're looking for on this site? There are way too many up-tight and repressed people frequenting Fodors these days. Just because you might want to have a beer on the beach while on vacation, doesn't mean you're a drunk. I wish I knew the answer to your question.
If you can't find an answer here, try posting on the Thorn Tree at lonelyplanet.com. People on that site are a little more foregiving.

Actually, there are a number of microbreweries in Hawaii, one of the best being Kona Brewing Company (located on the Big Island), which puts out about 3 or 4 different brews that arre quite good. There are other companies as well, and you'd get a good idea by checking out what they stock in a supermarket or just by seeing what's offered on the menus of any restaurants you go to. As for drinking on public beaches, I really don't know whether or not it's against the law - if it is, my husband and I have broken it a number of times in Kauai!

just got back from the islands - Kona Brewing company makes some good microbrews. Their Fire Rock Pale Ale and Longboard Lager are very good. I also tried Tsumani lager and it was very good too. Like everything on Hawaii the beer is expensive - $8-9 a six pack for the local microbrews.

With all the gorgeous scenery and things to do in Hawaii, why is someone worried about buying beer there? If you are more worried about buying beer than experiencing the flavor of Hawaii something is terribly wrong. Sounds to me like our Texan friend does indeed have a problem and needs some help.

I agree with GetHelp. Hawaii is so beautiful, why would you worry about where your next beer is coming from. AND, it's not like it's in Outer Mongolia or something, it is after all one of our 50 states. Only a moron or alchie would post such a stupid question.
And Get A Life-GetHelp was not being nasty, just pointing out the obvious. Sounds like you have a VERY big chip on your shoulder, or maybe you are a closet drinker also....

Kona is pretty good beer. I think most beaches ask that you not drink out of glass in case of breakage. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking in the beach and having a beer.
To the last poster tossing about references to people having a drinking problem because they want to have a beer on vacation (crazy, I know), leave your bible-beating, uptight, repressed, condescending, weirdo hick vibe at home please.

Why is it so wrong to have a few drinks while on vacation? People work hard all year long to afford their vacations(Hawaii or otherwise)and have every right to do whatever they find to be relaxing or entertaining. I am also going to Hawaii this month and have also wondered whether it is legal to consume alcohol on the beach. Drinking a mai tai(or beer or whatever!) while watching the sunset on the beach sound great to me! This does not make me an alcoholic! I rarely even drink! But it is something I and many others enjoy doing on their hard earned vacations! Some of you uptight people need to just mind your own business!!!

Hawaii Bound and Jeffrey-This is not Mr. Rodgers neighborhood. Until Fodor's requires some type of registration system--which they will never do because they want the forums to be free flowing---PUT UP WITH IT OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. You are nothing but a bunch of whiny babies.....

there are many posters on this board I truly hope never to cross paths with in our travels.....yikes! such nastiness-- undoubtably you make really bad tourists.
of course, you may not want to run into me either on a beach in Maui with that horrid swim suit thing going on....heheh
although, I'd lay a side bet many of you go to Vegas just for the endless buffets, hmmmmmm?
