Disneyland/Universal Studios
What is the big difference between Disneyland and Universal Studio theme park. I am planning to go to one or another, but not both. I like rides, but big roller coasters. I'm a pretty mild, when it comes to rides. Meaning nothing with a big drop. Based on that which theme park would be recommended?

I would absolutely recomment Disneyland.
Disney is a land all unto its self - with rides and fantasy and loads of
fun and special effects. Disneyland
takes 1 full day or 2 days to really
appreciate. Universal has much less to
do- and the rides and attractions are
nowhere near as fun. Universal would only take about 2/3 of a day to do.

If you are only going to do one, I would vote for Disneyland. It really is a magical (but very crowded!) place. Roller Coaster rides at D-land would be the Matterhorn, Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. Splash Mountain has a big drop but is not a roller coaster type ride. Still a whole lot to see and do if you leave these rides out, plus you would be avoiding some of the biggest lines! Jurasic Park at Universal has a HUGE drop!

I visited both parks recently. Well, first of all we went to Universal Studios on Fathers Day. It was fabulous, we enjoyed short lines and mild weather. We took the Studio tour which is so informative. They take you down to their actual studio lot where you can see the sets for various movies. The Jurassic Park ride was a lot of fun, theres a steep drop at the end and you also get wet, great on a sunny sunny day. Theres also the Terminator 2 3d movie. It was very impressive as well. In all, we had a wonderful time. Couple of days after, we went to Disneyland. This was my second time in the Magic Kingdom and it was awful. It was so so so hot and there were so many people. Getting into the park took almost an hour and a half. Getting on a ride took forever and the worst part of it was that it was so hot. Anyway, I love Disneyland, they have great rides like Splash Mountain, which is a lot of fun and Space Mountain, but on our trip it was way too crowded and way to hot for us. It was mid week. Good luck to you on your trip.

In Feb, we visited the new California Dreamin' Disney park in L.A., as well as the old one and Universal.
Universal was so uncrowded, that we rode on everything in half a day, enjoying it all.
Old Disney is best for small children, but we are almost past middle-aged, I guess you could say, and we really loved "Soarin' over California" and the the super roller coaster "California Screamin'" at the new park. Big, fast acceleration and smooth as silk., at the new park. "Soarin" is like a chairlift or hangglider ride over the sights of California, with the spray from Yosemite Falls and the smell of the orange orchards in your face as you soar over them. It's a much smaller park, but a bit crowded as it,s new.
