Disney World Hotel Choices - Help Me Pick!!

My wife and I are going for a week in July and I have found the following choices for hotels. 1. Hilton in WDW for $150 with breakfast. 2. Wyndham in WDW for $150 no breakfast. 3. Grosvenor in WDW for $110. 4. Carib Beach/Dixie/Coronodo/Port Orleans for $150, or, 5. Wilderness Resort for $220. Just wondering if any these sound better than others. Again, we have no kids, and plan to keep very busy, but would like a decent hotel to rest at mid-day and a good pool. Also, would the disney club get me a discount at the Disney Hotels during July? Thanks for your help!!

We have been MANY times to Disney and have been to a number of different hotels. First of all, our personal favorite is The Boardwalk Inn and Villas. It is very convenient as you can walk to both Epcot and MGM and there is alot to do right there. Second of all, if you can stay on WDW property - do it!! it makes life much easier as you only have to hop a bus, boat, monrail to get to anywhere. Of your choices, I have heard that the Wilderness Lodge is wonderful. Also I have talked to people at the Coronado who loved it. If you go to disney.com you can check out the room sizes which can help your choice. Good luck

Personally, I would stay at an on-site property if it cost the same as an off-site or if money is not a huge object. I find that some of the little perks - transportation, refillable mugs, etc. - make the vacation just a little more special. My husband and I have stayed at both Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans. We liked Port Orleans better because it was a bit more compact. I checked out Coronado Springs on our last trip and thought it was beautiful, though huge. However, if money is not a problem, stay at Wilderness Lodge. It is magnificent and so close to the Magic Kingdom. Your Disney Club membership should get you a discount in July. My husband and I never book a trip to Disney without using it (it was formerly the Magic Kingdom Club card). Check out the website at www.disneyclub.com to check for rates.

I agree with the above poster, stay on site. I stayed at the Caribbean Beach and was really disappointed with it. It was a little cheesy compared to other Disney properties.

I've stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and Coronado Springs; there is no comparison- choose Wilderness Lodge! You won't notice especially large rooms or amenities (Disney is really stingy with square footage), but it's a gorgeous structure and it has real atmosphere. You'll find that people come from all of the resorts just to tour the property. (When we stayed at Coronado Springs our second time around, we still found time to get to Wilderness Lodge for a couple of meals. We love it there!)

If you go, here are a few hints:
- If you get a pool or lagoon view room you can see/hear the Electrical Water Pageant from your balcony.
- Don't stand around waiting for the geyser to spontaneously erupt- it's on a schedule to go off every 30 minutes (I can't remember if it's on the hour or half hour).
- Try one of the buffalo burgers at the Roaring Fork cafeteria-style eatery. They're great!
- You can take a boat to the Magic Kingdom from the docks, or you can rent a pontoon or water sprite.
- Renting bikes and riding the trail to Fort Wilderness is great fun!

I vote for the Wilderness Lodge too. We stayed there last year and loved it. We also stayed at Dixie Landings which was very nice as well but if you can afford the Wilderness Lodge it is worth it. The rooms are not luxurious in any of the Disney resorts, but you won't spend much time in there any way. I was actually considering the Wyndham Palace this time myself. I am still trying to decide. Good luck and have a great time! P.S. Our room faced the water near the Magic Kingdom and we saw the fireworks everynight from our balcony, we didn't have to fight the crowds!

All of these hotels sound great. If you can afford to stay at the Wilderness Lodge, start by checking out the other hotels on property. For instance there is the Polynesian Hotel, The Boardwalk Inns & Villas which are great, the Yacht Club. The first hotels you mentioned are a little far away from the Magic Kingdom but a great location for downtown Disney. Dixie Landings and those hotels are very very large and are not very centrally located.

Definitely stay on site! You get your discount on properties above the moderate range so do look into it. Of the moderate properties I would opt for Coronado Springs...it caters more to a conference crowd and therefore has a spa and its restaurant is miles ahead of the other moderates in quality. More pricey, too but we thought that servings were generous and very good. I would be tempted to look into the Beach or Yacht Club properties. You would be at the back end of Epcot and could literally be inside in 5 minutes. I have not seen the other properties but my travel books here say the Beach Club gets a 92, Coronado and Wilderness an 86, Wyndham a 77, Grosvenor a 76, Hilton an 82. Now, I have heard that the pool at Wilderness is a bit small for the size of the property and thus lounge chairs are often hard to come by.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with the great advice. I was able to reserve a king bed room at the World Swan for $129/night because of an educator discount (my wife is teacher). However, I am still reading and looking for other deals since I can cancel this at any time. Thanks Again!!!

If you got that price at the Swan I'd stay put. It's a really nice property. We've stayed at all the on-site properties you listed and, by far, like the Coronado best. The food is excellent, even the food court(compared to other Disney food; it has an excellent pool and the transportation is much more fast and efficient than the lines at other hotels.

Sounds like you got a good deal. You will have WDW transport. For more info you can go to wdwig.com, DEb wills' unofficial site & check out the Swan FAQ.

We stayed at Dixie Landings in January. We have also stayed at the Swan and a few others. The Swan has a wonderful pool area. The rest of the resort is nothing special. It was too busy for us. Too many business people and meetings going on.
We found Dixie Landings to be VERY relaxing at the end of the day. They have a wonderful pool area w/ a pool bar.Food Court food was good. We had decided to stay part of our time at Dixie Landings and the other part at The All-Star resort. Ughhhhhhh. We high tailed it back to Dixie Landings ASAP!!!
Whichever resort you choose will be nice. We found the Transportation from DL to the parks to be great. No waiting. It is quiet and you don't notice people that much. It is the way they have the resort set up. I would suggest a room on the first floor. This way you don't have to carry your bags up the steps.
Good Luck, Have FUN!!!!

My husband & I were in Orlando last May and stayed at the Hilton WDW. We were very happy with the hotel. We could walk to all the shops, restaurants and clubs in downtown Disney and Pleasure Island. And, they had a free shuttle to all the other parks which was very convenient.
