Dining Near Embarcadero In San Francisco
I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency. Are there any really good dining options in the area, preferrably within walking distance? I like most any type food (seafood, pasta, Oriental, and Mexican being among the favorites) . We generally try to find moderately priced restaurants and go out to a really nice place at least once during our stay. We like to try and find something different, but being from the eastern part of the country, even west coast chains would be alright. Any suggestions?

Does Boulevard have any booth seating (I prefer the privacy and intimacy that they allow), or is it all tables? Is there a preferable area to sit in and can you request a certain area when making reservations? How noisy?

They do have some banquette seating although to my memory it is for parties of three or more. The back of the house is larger and I would definitely ask not to be seated at one of the small tables near the kitchen line. They are quite cramped. I suppose the best advice would be to try and get a table with banquette seating along the side of the building. These are at windows however I think you have reasonable privacy. And..check out the cornmeal blinis.

For "intimacy", the best tables are probably those at the windows toward Embarcadero. The center of the room (opposite the kitchen), where the banquettes are located, and tables opposite and/or in the bar area, have a considerable level of noise (due to architecture). Note, however, that from that "end" of the place, you don't have the same views of the fabulous decor.

To the top as don apparently couldn't find this post and it has slipped down quite a bit.
And by the way, don, I've eaten there three times (twice there were just two of us) and always had spacious and relatively quiet tables. Like you I hate those banquettes where they line all the twos up like you're eating at a banquet!

What are you looking for in terms of moderately priced restaurants? (and how much do you like to walk...)
From where you are, you could walk to north beach (well, I would) and hit up any number of really reasonable places (just ate at Panta Rei for lunch this wknd. pretty tasty). There's a growing trend for tapas-style places around SF, but most of them are in the Mission (not walking distance to you, but an easy cab ride).
Maya (sorta walking distance, at 2nd and harrison) has what we've dubbed mexican flavored french food. The seasonings/menu is undoubtedly mexican, but the sauces are superb and elegant. YUM.
enjoy... lots of good food to be found embarcadero/SOMA area.

Hugely popular and widely acclaimed Slanted Door is right up the street on Brannen (fusion Vietnamese that is very authentic). Near the Embarcadero is Aqua for upscale seafood (it's been a few yrs but their 5-6 course tasting menu is a better value than a la carte).
