Dining in Portland and surrounding area?

Going to be in Portland for 4 days next weekend. Any good resturant suggestions?
Any type is fine, casual to fine dining, fast food to home cooking.

Hi
We are going to be in Portland at the end of September. I am researching also.
Try this, type Portland into the text search box and read all the postings that already deal with this subject. It is very helpful, it was great when we were picking the hotel.
Good luck!

I'm checking in from Portland! Arrived late last night, and will do a full report later.
Couldn't wait to report on tonight's meal though...Thanks to Kimamom's advice, we ate at Paley's and it was INCREDIBLE!! The best meal I've had in a long time!! I may have to go back on Wednesday night for their wine tasting and tapas.

At 5th Ave suites right now-wonderful as usual! Tomorrow I switch to River Place.

See you soon! Lucy

Lucy, Great!!
We will be staying at the Fifth Ave Suites, do you have a suite or a room? Is it posh or just nice?

Then Paleys goes on our list..more please~
Rosedale, do you have a good Portland site? I will share mine if you want.

I live in Portland and my downfall is eating out (and eating in, too!)

Here's a short list of our favorites:

Burgers:

The bar at Higgin's - downtown
Castagna's Cafe - on Hawthorne Blvd.
Bread and Ink - also on Hawthorne

Italian:
Fratelli's-in the Pearl District
Three Doors Down-off Hawthorne
Gino's-on Sellwood's antique row

Brewpub:
Laurelwood Pub-in Hollywood District-great beer and great pulled pork sandwiches

Tex-Mex:
Esparza's-off SE Burnside on 28th
Funky decor and unusual entrees

Asian:
Dragonfish-downtown-go at happy hour for $1.95 sushi and order Ginger Carmelized Chicken

I have tons more, but these are my faves. We like casual, inexpensive joints with great food.

Have fun!

Icuy, I'm glad you enjoyed Paley's Place. Another place we REALLY enjoyed was the Bluehour located in the Pearl District. This month's Sunset features a couple page article on the Pearl and this was one of our favorite places in Portland! The potato gnocchi with the black truffles will just knock your socks off and the ambiance is so upscale and contenporary.

We have also enjoyed the Harborside, you can walk from the RiverPlace Hotel is to the restaurant. Jake's Famoun Crawfish is also very good if you like seafood.

For some gorgeous views of Portland and MT. Hood, try the Portland City Grill, located 30 stories up. My son had the steak and lobster there after he proposed to his girlfriend on a carriage ride through Portland. I hope you enjoy the RiverPlace! ***kim***

Kim, while researching the restaurants that I have gotten off of this site, I looked into the Bluehour..one of the common remarks is that it is terribly noisy and a place to "see and be seen"..do you agree?
Thanks for all the recommendations so far!

For IMHO the best "Home cooking" you will find in Oregon, Tads Chicken and Dumplings just east of Portland in Troatdale.

Well, we had a group of six with us at the Bluehour, so we liked loud! But it wasn't so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation, the place is buzzing with excitement which was fun.

See and be seen? I don't know about that, but the food sure is good there! ***kim*** I posted a report on the Chowhound board about the Bluehour. www.chowhound.com
