Ah yes, the joys of dining on Mulberry Street. My favorite for dinner is Da Nico, outside garden if the weather allows. For lunch, you can't beat Il Fornaio (the specials are very reasonable, I think $5.95).
Enjoy Little Italy!

Actually just about anywhere on Mulberry St. would be fine. All the restaurants have outdoor cafes and the street is closed to traffic so everyone walks in the street and eyes the food all round. So look for something that you like and menus posted in front and then go to find a cute little place for a pastery.
Have a great time.

I must humbly disagree with the previous post. I've tried just about every restaurant on Mulberry, and I think the quality and service do vary somewhat.
As a general rule, if the restaurant has a person out front trying to entice passersby, avoid it. Same goes for that goofy place with all the Christmas lights out front. Also, watch out for the bait and switch with regard to specials.

Get off at Canal Street and walk up to Mulberry Street.
One word of warning, if it even remotely looks like it is going to rain, skip Little Italy. The bulk of most restaurants seating is outside and indoor seating is very crammed, uncomfortable, and miserable.

Florios, on Grand across from Ferrara's. The lunch specials are very inexpensive but filling -- a great value. But skip dessert and go across the street for cannoli or sfogliatelle at Ferrara's (the best in Manhattan, but Veniero's makes better cannoli).

We are in LI almost every week and ahve eaten at them all twice . IMHO the best is Due Amici in the first block of Mulberry on the left side. Tiny but excellent and bathroom is on main floor good if with elderly.
DaNIco has good food but terrible service. Was Rudy's favorite place to eat while Mayor he gave them a sweetheart deal on the rental of their outdoor patio.
La MEla is a tourist trap. No menu , no prices and proudly posts all of it's health code violations. It seems happy to wallow in all of it's filth.
What ever you do don't have dessert where you eat. You have to go to Ferraras around the corner and have Lobster Tail and cappacino. Then walk back to your hotle to burn off the calories LOL

Hello
Just back from dinner in Little Italy tonight. They have Mulberry St closed so it was fun walking down the street, it was very crowded, all the restaurants have tables and umbrellas on the sidewalks and most of them were full!
We went to Lunas. Mostly because it is sentimental, we used to take our children there all the time on the way home from Fire Island.
It has not changed a bit. Actually, they could use a bit of sprucing up.
The menu is standard, everything we had was good.
On the way out I spoke to the owner and she says that her Aunt is still in the kitchen, breading the cutlets, helping with the cooking. I don't know if I want to be breading cutlets when I am 97 but it would be nice to be capable of it
I don't recommend this place for anyone who is expecting a shiny- clean- attentive waiter -wonderful- nouvelle Italian kind of place. It is more the kind of place an Italian family will bring all their aunts and cousins and they will be loud and eat a lot. ~
