Many thanks to PakePorkChop for all the clear and worthy suggestions. We will only have a weekend in Honolulu and were eager to head back to Chinatown for "good eats." The bad part is that we won't be able to do his Tues. walking tour. If others can be there, it's not to be missed! Another time for us maybe.

PakePorkChop does custom tours on other days for special groups, if available! Keep him walking, Fodorites!

Where can I find out information about PPC's tours?

Also, I'm a big fan of sushi and Japanese noodle soup. Even though this is a dim sum thread, I would like any of your recommendations on moderate-inexpensive sushi places and Japanese noodle joints.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what island/area you're looking for info on, Locsin, but I love Ezogiku in Waikiki (near Gucci) for noodles. As for sushi I like Yanagi near the Blaisedell Arena or Imanas Tei up near UH. Imanas Tei also has shabu shabu meals, although they're pricey.

And I certainly don't claim to be a dim sum expert, but the manapua at Happy Day are both good and very cheap before 11 a.m.

I was thinking about Oahu but we're going to be in Maui and the BI as well in 2 weeks so if you have any recommendations, I would appreciate it.

I travelled to Hawaii for 4 years and one of my fondest memories was eating some great macademia nut pancakes in North Maui, when we were doing the Hana drive. Since we're not doing Hana this time and I don't think we'll be back around that area, I would love to find a good place again to eat macademai nut pancakes in Honolulu or on the BI.

You can find out more about PPC's tours by emailing him direct: [email protected]. He's also a food writer, you can check out his online columns here, which will also include ethnic dishes:

For a variety of Honolulu Chinatown tours, both guided and unguided, go to

Locsin, you probably will get better results if you started a thread for noodles and sushi.

In Honolulu, try Menchanko-tei for really interesting Nagasaki noodles, including Champon.
