G-Tell us just a little bit about what you're thinking about. Shopping, sightseeing, beaches, water sports, Everglade trips, etc. If you'll be more specific, I can fill in some blanks.

Sorry. We'll probably stay at our hotel beach. But interested in dining,(we love breakfast) sightseeing, Everglade trips. We're pretty active (run, hike etc..) We are up to driving 1-2 hrs. to certain destinations if they're worth it. Thanks for your input. G

Check out downtown West Palm Beach's Cityplace and Clematis St Area, Fort Lauderdale's Las Olas Riverfront, beach, Sawgrass Mills for shopping. Bayside, South Beach, Lincoln Rd Mall in Miami, Kay Largo snorkelling at John Pennekamp State Park, or you can snorkel closer in Boca at Red Reef Park. Check out Mizner Park in Boca Raton, Loxahatchee Preserve west of Delray Beach, airport rides at the end of Loxahatchee Rd off 441 West of Boca. Downtown Delray Beach's Atlantic St Areas is really coming along nicely. There are many shops and restaurants. Boston's on the Beach is always good for some live music and seafood.

G-Will has given you a pretty good idea about what to do in the Delray Beach area. I've got two breakfast reccomendations for you-
JohnG's in Lake Worth-Great food, long lines, no credit cards but well worth it.
Dune Deck-next door to Ritz Carlton in Manalapan. In many ways just like JohnG's. You won't be disappointed with either one.

How did you end up at this Marriott? Just curious. My father in law lives in west Delray and all these years we never knew what the beach area was like. We took him out there last weekend and was amazed at how nice it was. The Marriott looked so inviting that I called for reservations. Just north and south of the beach area are lovely homes. The other posts have given you lots of shopping ideas. In South Florida you can run just about anywhere but it's best to start out very early or early evening. It's really, really hot to run after 9 or 10. You can of course but it's not very wise. It could ruin the rest of your day. Run/ walk early and then play the rest of the day.

Just a couple more suggestions... In Delray, "Dada" on the west side of Old School Square on Atlantic is a good place for dinner. Not too expensive and the twenty somethings and thirty somethings tend to hang out there as the night goes on. In the West Palm Beach area . . . the Sailfish Marina on Singer Island is great for breakfast (they have a good buffet w/omelets, etc.), lunch, or dinner, especially if you're not from here. The restaurant is large and has a great view of the sport fishing docks and Peanut Island. Also, in West Palm Beach, is LeMonte, which is at the top of the Northbridge Center on Flagler Drive (the black building) and has the best view around. It is a bit pricey though.

Mike W: How long does it take to drive from Delray to Singer Island?

I just stayed at the DelRay Marriott 2 weeks ago for my honeymoon. The beach is very nice there. The hotel was also excellent, we really enjoyed the bar near the pool. As for dining, just walk a few blocks up Atlantic Ave. There are tons of places to eat there, casual and fancy places. We ate at a different place every night for a week, and still had places we wanted to try out.

Not too long. About twenty minutes. Take I-95 north to Blue Heron Boulevard and go east about 4-5 miles, over the Blue Heron Bridge and take your first right. The Sailfish Marina will be on your right-hand side. The first entrance has valet parking, the second (arounf their motel) has self parking. There is always a lot of activity going on there with all the sport fishing yachts coming and going.
