Day trip to DC from Williamsburg

We will be staying at the Powhatan resort in Williamsburg in August. Can anyone tell me if there is a day trip of some sort up to DC? I have looked on several web sites, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks

I recently threw away ads from the (Newport News) Daily Press for various motorcoach companies in the Tidewater area that had DC tours.. sorry, I don't recollect the names of the companies, but I do recall the prices reasonable.
Try http://www.vamotorcoach.com/members.asp and look out especially for those in the 757 area code.

Are you staying at Powhatan Plantation?

My friends and I stayed there a few weeks ago and they offer a day trip to D.C. We went on our own but from what I saw in the itinerary, they definitely planned a full day in D.C. You might want to call and ask about it.

If you do go to D.C. for the day, I highly recommend the Jackie Onassis exhibit that just arrived at the Corcoran Gallery. We enjoyed it a lot.

DC is a 3-hour trip from Williamsburg--a very long day trip, especially given all there is to see and do in DC. You might want to spend a night. Amtrak has train service between Williamsburg and DC. It's very easy to get around (Metro, inexpensive cabs within the downtown area), so you could spend on lodging what you would otherwise spend on a day tour.

T.M. - Yes we are staying at the Powhatan Plantation. We have heard some good and some bad about this place. What was your take on it? Thanks for the information on the day trip. We will definetely look into it.

About Powhatan Plantation:

The only thing we didn't like about it was that there was a slight ant problem. We found some ants in the kitchen the first night and they came the next day to spray. After that, I only saw a few and not in the kitchen. The family next door to us, however, had to move to another unit due to the ants. Apparently, spraying didn't help in their case.

Other than that, it was a very nice place. We were in a two-bedroom unit with a loft and were very comfortable. The grounds are nicely kept and I liked walking by the two ponds in the front. They also have a fitness trail. Its also located pretty close to everything, which was convenient.

Enjoy your trip! If you get a chance, visit some of the nearby plantations like Shirley and Berkley. The drive alone is worth it.
