Dallas to NO

How long does it take to drive from Dallas to NO? I will be visiting friends in Dallas and a friend in NO wants me to come visit also. I was thinking of driving because I have never seen anything in the South besides cities.

mapquest.com predicts a drive of some 560 miles-- a bit over 9 hours, without traffic. The route they suggest goes through Shreveport.

It is a very boring drive over not-so-good roads, and it is about 8 hours. I would highly recommend checking Southwest Airlines' prices since the flight is just under 2 hours!

Thanks, if it was a pretty or interesting drive we were thinking it might be fun, but I guess we will just fly.

Are any of the people actually from Louisiana that posted responses? The roads may not be the best but i think from living here it is very pretty.. and a waste of money to fly.

Why yes, I AM from Louisiana. And the countryside of Louisiana and Texas can be beautiful. But 9 to 10 hours of pretty countryside can get a bit dull. From Dallas, I would fly to NO. I'd rather have more time to enjoy the city.

Since I will be flying to Dallas from California, it won't cost that much more to add flight to NO--I was just wondering if it was worth driving.

I live in Dallas and drove to NO to work with the INS.
I will never regret that drive. It was beautiful and interesting.
If you do drive, get a Mobil Travel Guide and learn about all the little towns you drive through. There is so much history between here and there.
BTW... I took an entire day to drive there. We left in the morning and arrived before bedtime.
have a blast and enjoy some of the richest history in the US.
Food is awesome too!!!!

Another vote for the flying option. Also check the airfares on Southwest Airlines; they fly out of Love Field to New Orleans.
