All the interstates are open, and I think I would stick with that - I-20, I-49, I-10, I-12, I-10. Going from Gulfport to NO, only one lane open on the I-10 Twin Span between Slidell and NO, so expect delays.

The I-10 twin spans to Slidell should be repaired by early January. The contractor is running ahead of schedule.

Be sure to stop in Baton Rouge for lunch. We've always had good restaurants and now are getting ones from New Orleans. Galatoire's is now open in Baton Rouge for lunch and dinner; Mandina's is coming in January!

One Fodorite has suggested taking US90 from I-49 to Baton Rouge, instead of I-10. It's a few miles shorter, and will also avoid potential congestions/problems on the Atchafalaya causeway portion of I-10 as well as the I-10 Mississippi River bridge.

I tried that a few weeks ago, and while there's some construction going on on US90, it's an easy drive. May not save time, but it's a viable alternative.

FYI: The I-10 twin spans are open in both directions.

I-20 to Shreveport(take cutoff around southside-marked) to I-49 south to Lafayette; have lunch/coffee break in downtown Natchitoches; I-10 to Baton Rouge;I-12 to I-10 east to Gulfport Exit then I-10 west back to NO
