Baton Rouge to Watercolor (Destin area) next weekend

Need a break from the aftermath of Katrina and Rita! I was wondering if I-l0 is open all the way between Baton Rouge and Destin. We are staying at Watercolor Development. Any recommendations on restaurants/must do's? Thanks.

You don't take I-10 from BR.
Take I-12 to Slidell and join I-10E
Here is the website for road closures

I have been planning a trip from Florida to Baton Rouge and have just finished looking at I-10 status. It is open all the way. Of course, unless you want to go through all the New Orleans mess, you will go east on I-12 from Baton Rouge until it intersects with I-10 around Slidell, as pointed out by Fairhope. Even I-55 between I-10 and I-12 is apparently open, according to the information just posted.

I-10 between New Orleans and Slidell is definitely not open. The so-called "twin span" was destroyed.

I can't comment about I-10 but have a few restaurant recs for you....

The Lake Place (in Dune Allen Beach, a town down 30A a piece to the west)...fantastic for supper. It's pretty small so make a reservation

D & K's Cafe in Grayton Beach (also down 30A but not as far. Eat upstairs outside on the deck. The only words you need to know here are grouper sandwich. You're on vacation so get the key lime pie. There's no such thing as too much key lime pie.

I heard a lot about the Red Bar in Grayton Beach, but didn't make it there. Grayton Beach is just one town over from Watercolor.

There are more restaurants in that area than you will have time to try. What a dilemma. Check out beachesofsouthwalton.com for more info.
