Dallas Hotel Occupancy

Hi all,

I'm planning for a trip to Dallas in Mid-December. Will the hotels in the Dallas downtown area likely to be highly occupant in mid-december? Should I book a room this early? Thanks for your answers in advance.

That's not TOO far away.
Book it when you find a good rate. Period.

Hi Jimmy some hotels to look at in downtown Dallas are The Adolphus, The Fairmount. Near downtown is The Crescent, The Stoneleigh. Is there any particular reason you need to stay downtown? It is pretty much dead after rush hour is over. Dallas is a convention city so you might check and see what is going on at that time. Check with the Dallas Convention Center. Anyway hope this helps. Any other questions about Dallas please post and I will try and answer for you.

I agree with Gail; unless you're in town because of a convention, there's no reason to stay downtown. I'd recommend staying in the area near North Park Mall (75 and Loop 12) for convenience to shopping, restaurants, DART Rail, etc.

December is usually pretty slow for hotels because business travel slows considerably.

Hi again,

I wanna thank me (not me, the first replier ME), TVLPRO, and espeically Gail and Christie for your information. So glad that you brought that up. I'm in Dallas for just a four days vacation that's all, nothing business, and there are only these few places that I want to visit: the Deep Ellum (after dark, and the website with the streaming video say that it's only 3 blocks east of downtown), the Six flags over Texas (as I know the other Six Flags will all be closed in December, but not this one), or the Dallas Zoo, I'm lost now hahaha, which part of Dallas should I stay if I want to go the the above places? Thank you sooooooo much for your information. I really appreciate it.

Downtown is a good central location for the places you want to visit. Deep Ellum is a bit east, the zoo south, and 6 Flags west. The West End section of Dallas doesn't go to bed when commuters leave, and Deep Ellum comes to life.

Just to let you know - 6 flags is about 30 miles West of Dallas in another town, Arlington. You'll have to rent a car.

Downtown might fit your bill if you want to go to Deep Ellum and the West End (I would skip West End except for the Sixth Floor Museum). Kath is right you will need a car definitely for Six Flags as it is West of Dallas about 30 miles. In fact I highly recommending splurging for a car as that is the best way to explore Dallas really. Plus you may be bored and decide you would like to go see Fort Worth. Their Zoo is even better than the Dallas Zoo. Anyway I do not know what your budget constraints because the downtown hotels will be more expensive unless you get a good rate on Priceline or something. Anyway keep us posted!

You'll certianly need a car to see Dallas properly.

Be sure and check Six Flags' website to make sure they will be open when you want to go. I know they do Holiday In the Park, but some or most of the rides aren't open and it is more like a craft fair thing.

Even though Deep Ellum is only three blocks east from the edge of downtown, you'd be safer to drive there, or take a cab. (You really shouldn't walk by yourself in downtown Dallas at night.) Deep Ellum and the West End are both touristy areas, so you're fine there. There are some excellent restaurants in Deep Ellum. St. Pete's Dancing Marlin is a personal favorite!

I agree that the Fort Worth Zoo is MUCH better than the Dallas Zoo. It is located on University Drive at I-30. Their Texas Wild exhibit has won several awards and it is really good. They also have outstanding exhibits all over the rest of the zoo, too. Dallas' only things that are better than Fort Worth are the new tiger habitat and the large primate areas.

While you're in Fort Worth, go to the Kimbell Art Museum. It is well worth the trip! Also,t eh Stockyards are always fun, and that is the "Texas experience" that most visitors are looking for.

Hi all,

Wow you guys are so great! I'm now getting quite a lot! The stuff ya guys been given me is just what I need. Thanks for Moi And Kath, and also Gail and Christie for the information. But now here's the problems:

First of all, I can't drive. I think you might laugh at that , but from the place where I'm living (somewhere in southeast asia), car isn't quite a necessity. Well I'm not diving into the details of this to bore you guys right now...... so if I can't drive, I decide to count on the DART system (the buses or the rails) to get to the Six Flags or some other places, is it possible for me to do so? Besides the 'Six Flags' web site said that it's only a 20 minutes car ride for one to go from downtown to there, so will it cost me a fortune to go there by a cab? If not staying downtown could be a fair choice, but any other good suggestions of which part I should stay? Thanks again for you answers.

I live in Arlington where Six Flags is located. DART is Dallas' bus system. They don't come to Arlington. In fact, Arlington the largest city in the country without any public transportation, no rail, no nothing. So that said, yes I think you could take a cab to six flags. I don't know how much it would cost. Would estimate it to be similar to what I paid once to get to DFW which was $30.

I don't think its a big deal not to drive ... I do think its a big deal to come to the Dallas/Ft Worth area and not be able to drive. We are just not very well equipped in the area of public transporation. Its the pits I agree but true. It can be done but would be a lot more work than its worth IMO. Perhaps you could pick a metro area with really good public transportation. Not meaning to be negative, just my opinion.

There is rail service from Dallas to Ft. Worth, Trinity Rail.
You could take a cab from Dallas to 6 Flags OR you could take the rail to the Trinity Blvd Station (360 @ Trinity) and take a cab from there.
You could possibly stay at the new Hotel ZaZa which opens in early October. They have a Texas themed room which may be fun for you! The hotel is on the McKinney Ave. trolley which will take you into town and to the new West Village area.
You could always connect with the light rail system and head out to Mockingbird Station.
Dallas is best by car but you can still have fun without one!

Here's all the info you need.
http://www.trinityrailwayexpress.org/
Looks like you can get from downtown Dallas to points close to 6 Flags and the Ft Worth Zoo (which is nicer than Dallas) not to mention the Ft Worth Stockyards.
Be sure to check the links to DART and The T.
Good luck!

To get to Six Flags without a car....

Try Greyhound. Take a bus from the downtown Dallas Greyhound station to the station in Arlington, Texas, a suburban city that contains Six Flags. The distance is actually about 15 miles, not 30.

The Arlington bus station is located in Six Flags Mall, directly across a freeway from the Six Flags park.

Once in Arlington, you could conceivably walk to the park, but a taxi may be more comfortable.
