Dallas bbq

Hi. I'm going to be in Dallas for one night (Jan. 25), and I'm looking for any barbecue recommendations. I will be staying at the Adolphus Hotel. I'm not planning to rent a car, so I would prefer a place near the hotel or one that's easily accessible by train or bus. I'd be OK with a short cab ride, too. Thanks for your help!

I think Countyline is probably in Dallas and somewhere near downtown.

Sonny Bryan's is pretty famous in Dallas, and there are locations near you. Below is a link to their website. Locations nearest you would be of course the downtown tunnel well as the West End or original location on Inwood, which might be a neat choice.

Actually the West End location of Sonny Bryan's might be your best bet. It is not far from your hotel and is a little touristy area where you could take in some Dallas kitch during your short visit.

Sammy's BBQ on Leonard is an excellent option.

Pecan Lodge is reputedly better than any other suggestion you've received (natives rave about it - the waits can be long and they've run out on me when I tried to eat there). It's ONLY a lunch option: "OPEN WEDNESDAY- SUNDAY 11 AM - 3 PM (or until we sell out)." And they do sell out quickly. They are expanding operations but not in time for your trip.

Sonny Bryan's is pretty middling. It's better than Dickey's and, for many options, Sammy's (overrated).

This statement is easily verifiable and completely wrong: Countyline is probably in Dallas and somewhere near downtown.

County Line is not in Dallas and therefore not "somewhere near downtown." It took 10 seconds on google to find that out - time Gretchen could have spent herself instead of chiming in with incorrect supposition.

www.pecanlodge.com

It is a stand located at Dallas Farmers Market, although they have plans to move to Deep Ellum, according to news story I read.

FWIW, I wouldn't give you 2 cents for Sonny Bryans.

Get to the Pecan Lodge @ 10:00 or 10:30 and you will be eating at 11:00 or 11:30(normally).

Thanks again. I arrive in the late afternoon and will only be there one night, so it would have to be for dinner.

For dinner, there is nothing within walking distance of your hotel that is worthwhile. You can taxi to one of the best-of places not far away (like in Deep Ellum, see links from Spiro) or go to Lockhart in Bishop Arts (bit of a ride).

Oops, just now read that you won't have a car.

I wouldn't want to eat at The French Room by myself. But, if you are with someone The French Room(expensive) in the Adolphus is a really awesome place to dine. I've only eaten there once, but would like to try it again sometime. Certainly far different from BBQ, though of course.

Yeah, the French Room probably wouldn't be for me.
