thanks linsley. we're a bit tired of mexican food at the moment (had too many times in the last 2 weeks). Maybe if we skip it the next 2 weeks we'll be up for it then but yes, we're wanting to have lunch in Forth Worth. If not Mexican, another option you would suggest would be what?

Maria - Reata is a Fort Worth institution and would be a good pick for your lunch. They do have outdoor seating upstairs with nice views of Sundance Square and Downtown Fort Worth.

The Kimbell & the Modern are both must-sees in Fort Worth. We live in Fort Worth & do the Rahr tour and tasting a couple of times a year. It is lots of fun and there is always a big crowd so you may want to get there early to find parking.

We enjoy La Duni or the Dream Cafe for brunch in Dallas. I second the vote for the bar at Nana at the Anatole for drinks. It is on the top floor...just a couple of blocks from your hotel and has amazing views of the city.

We LOVE the Modern cafe inside the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum. You do not need to pay admission to dine at the cafe. Great food and great ambiance.

joygerm, can you tell me how the brewery is like? We have one here (Saint Arnold's) that does tours/tastings on saturdays adn it's tons of fun. It's free and they have you line up at the "entrance" and give you tokens (4 tokens) and each token gets you a free tasting (about 4 ounces). They do a speach first about the brewery and it's history, current news, there's really no real tour. ANyway, after that, you line up to get your beer.

How does the one in Frth Worth do it?

We're not thinking realta for lunch as soon as they open then head over to the brewery to be there around 12:30. IS that enough time to get parking?

We love brewery tours. So far, the best one has been at Abita across Lake Ponchetrain near New Orleans. I also liked Red Lodge in Montana and the great divide in Denver was also pretty cool. So we're really looking forward to going! Thanks for any enlightenment on how this one works.

Did you click on the link I provided for Greenz and look at the Menu? It isn't a vegetarian place. The Panko Shrimp on the salad is good. The Hawaiin Tuna Salad is good as well Below is there Southwest Shrimp Salad. Salads are fairly large. It really isn't that light.

I'll second the recommendations for Reata and the Cafe at the Modern for eating in Fort Worth. Both are GREAT and you will enjoy them!!

Just so you know, Valentine's Day is usually pretty chilly (it's not spring yet!) so patio seating might not be the best idea...

The Emabssy Suites you're staying at is in a commercial/industrial area. If you're getting a great rate on it, that's fine, but if you want to be in an area that has more things going on, I'd pick another location.

Last night I had dinner at La Cubanita and saw that they have bottomless drink specials for brunch. Its a cute casual place on McKinney with a wraparound patio that is enclosed if chilly.

I love Breadwinner's, but I do think it gets a little pricey with drinks. Of course I haven't been in a couple of years, so many they have some specials too.

THANKS BECKYTX!!!! That is PERFECT! I have been kind of sick of mexican food (since we've had it alot lately) so this is perfect and the bottomless mojitos or mimosas are just an added bonus. DH will love the sandwhiches menu (it's his favorite type of lunch).

I'd go with the one near Love Field. The Love Field one is on Northwest Highway and it's right around the corner from Lemmon Avenue and a lot of restaurants. It's still close to downtown Dallas and McKinney Avenue.

Looks like we are going to have gorgeous weather this week: lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s!

Hi All! Just wanted to say thank you for all the suggestions. Just wanted to let you know how our weekend was.

Left Houston at 11am. Stopped off for a an hour lunch on the way at madisonville (good restaurant at an old inn) and got to Dallas at 3pm. We checked in and DH and I just wanted to relax and did our vday presents exchange. Got him artistic photos I took from Yellowstone framed for his office. He LOVED them (so did the gallery I work with and now she wants me to do reprints of them!). Anyway, I got an ipod touch - very surprised and extremely pleased with it!

Hotel was not in the best location and it's seemed to be an older ES but it suited us (I found the downtown Fort Worth one may be a suitable place for our next visit). We asked the shuttle driver to take us to a "bar type place for drinks" and he took us to Dick's - which we've been to, of course, in San Antonio. We were at first a bit disappointed but met a really nice couple at the bar so ended up having a good time. Then we took a cab to Stephan Pyles. Sorry, but I was a bit disappointed with the place and the food. We waited to be seated even though we were on time and there seemed to be empty tables. The only food that was good was the raw oysters with the 3 different sauces. I had a crab mouse pie for an appetizer that I couldn't eat and a rack of lamb for an entree that was too red and had to send back. I've ordered plenty of lamb medium rare before but this one barely touched any heat! We called it a night after that.

Sat woke up and had breakfast at the hotel then made it Fort Worth and walk around sundance square. Cute little area but the shops were not my style at all although fun to go through. Then headed to Rarh and Sons (we decided to just have BBQ sandwhiches there). That was alot of fun.

After that, we went home for a nap and later we received a call from our new friends we met the night before. They were going to the blues bar for an 80's/70's concert. We decided to join them after our dinner - we went to Okoishii and that was fantastic sushi! Anyway, the band was fantastic too and we had a really great night. We later met some of their other friends at a bar off of McKinney st (can't remember the name) and called it a night. Nice new friends!

Sunday, I woke up feeling a bit fluish but we had tickets to the King Tut exhibition (if you order in advance and get the gold pass, it's quite a deal and you skip the looooooong lines by going through fast track) so we decided to get lunch. We ended up going to Rise No.1. That was the BEST place we went to all weekend for food. I had the crab souffle and had onion soup to start. The restaurant is housed in this modern take of a french cottage. Even the bathroom was cool! After lunch, we went to the exhibit which was very nice even though it was too packed for my taste. We grabbed some steak burgers (which we heard was popular and a dallas insitution) and headed home. By the time we finally made it home, I was running a fever, had really bad chills that evening and missed 2 days of work.

All in all, a really good visit! Thanks everyone!

We had a really good time and want to go visit again. Just suggested it as a girl's weekend trip with my gal pals too. I found folks from Dallas very warm and friendly. Not just the ones we ended up hanging out with that night but others as well like the brewery, etc. I always thought that Houston and Dallas were the same (set up, I mean) but nothing like it. There are actual spaces with no growth between the cities/towns. Between Spring and Houston, it's all built up, for example.

Yeah, we missed the sixth floor but that will be top of the list for us when we come back. That and securing a reservation to Wolfgang Puck's Five Sixty...
