Wow calm down with the caps there Polly, seems like a good question to me.
I was in DC two weeks ago and thought about the cruise tour.Any of the DC visitor sites will link you to the company. There is a metro stop nearby.
I planned on using tourmobile but they weren't running the Mt Vernon trip then.
I took the Metro(yellow line) to the last stop. There are public buses that get you there in about 15-20 minutes and they only cost a quarter with a Metro transfer. The drivers were friendly and helpful.
I've done a lot of touring in my life,I thought Mt.Vernon was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
Go early to avoid the crowds!

Hi Arabella
I've lived here in the DC area most of my life and have taken the cruise about ten years ago. It was fun - we all enjoyed it it was better than driving to Mount vernon plus you get to see a lot of the area by boat. You will pass National Airport and then go by Crystal City and Alexandria and on the Maryland side you will pass Bolling Air force base and the Naval Research Laboratory where Thomas Edison helped establish the first navy research facility. Washington is a fun place and getting off your feet for awhile can be enjoyable.

Metro stop is a very short walk to the boarding place and it is well worth the trip. Lots to see from the ship as you travel but especially when you get to Mount Vernon. Wear good walkig shoes because there is so much to see. It might be a good idea to see the house first and then walk around the grounds. A whistle sounds to let you know the boat is leaving.
