cross country road trip

Leaving from just north of Seattle, Wa and need to get to just outside NEw York City. Debating on leaving Seattle on I90 straight across to chicago OR 82/84 to N of Salt Lake, then across on 80. Leaving date March 8th...need to be there no later than 13th.

Couple questions...which route is better for safer travel.....Any cool places we MUST see?

We have couple drivers, have driven long rives straight thru before to other areas. Want to stop some but want to get to NY fairly quickly. Ideas?

Check the weather forecast a few days before leaving. The route with the dry road and without the white stuff is the safer.

What rkkwan said--check the weather. If I80 is snowbound, drop down to I70.

We drove from NYC to Wyoming and back, so can advise about that part of the trip. Do you plan on doing some siteseeing? Staying in an area or city a couple of days to check it out? What's your time frame?

Sorry, missed your time frame on first read, got it now - 5 days. Not much time to see any sites.

5 days? Your sights will be Dennys, the gas station bathrooms, and Motel 6's.

We want to be in New York by the 13th or 14th. Don't plan on leaving New York until the 19th.

LOL - about time somebody figured out that 'safety' wouldn't matter much at the speeds they'll be traveling.

According to online guides, this is 2808 miles and 40 hours of driving.

In 5 days that is 560 miles per day and 8 hours of solid travel per day on average.

... you can probably stop at Mount Rushmore if you don't stay too long (and it is 'safe' there).

You and "daughters" ???

Most of your non-moving, daylight hours will be used up at rest areas along the way.

If you're still speaking to one another by the time you reach the continential divide, just push a tiny bit faster and have a bit more time for NY.

Amazingly we all get along great...nice thing about ipods and potable dvd players at times!

I know it is pushing it, but really dont have much choice...2 of us driving a total of 8 hrs a day..not one of us doing it all at once. Feed and water breaks...occasional interesting place to stretch out a bit....plan on 6 days 12 hr days...
(leave 8th..arrive late 13 or 14th)
