I priced ALB to YYC for the dates mentioned above and AA is 450.00, UA and Air Canada are both 418.00

and perhaps my question is answered by another thread I read earlier today - perhaps it is too early to get reasonable rates from all carriers and i should be looking around late sept/early oct

aha! is the fact that one of my travel dates (my return trip) is a weekend day the part that is costing me a mint?

Typically (but not always) you need a Saturday night stay to qualify for the best fares.
Just tell me the darn dates and I will get you exact prices.

yes, that appears to be my problem - if i want to fly on saturday the round trip is 1200, if i wait until sunday its 450 - well, despite the bumps in communication along the way, you all have been most helpful and i appreciate all your input

To Tvlpro: Geesh, why don't you just book the damn trip for her already?

And while you're at it, get her a rental car, hotel, travellers checks, underwear, and pay her bills? Cause it seems she's too scared and crazy to do it herself.

Hope you've jumped on that airfare by now --- it sounds like one of those "snooze, you loose" opportunities. If you wait too long, I'd bet that airfare is back up with what the others are charging.

I flew back from Fort Lauderdale yesterday on American Airlines --- it was a full plane both coming & going. They're making changes to cut back on costs, but as far as I know they're not planning to go under. And as I live in one of their major hub cities, I'd probably hear any rumblings should it become an issue.

Kay:

I didn't say no one at Fodor's flies. I said no one had responded from the point of view of flying recently with AA. If you've had all that experience, why didn't you just comment on THAT instead of just bashing people?
