Craig: on our trip to Kauai last May (very special anniversary, too), in the morning we took the Jack Harter tour and it was amazing. Got lots of beautiful photos, even thru the heli windows. Most of the time I forgot to take pix, I was so enamoured with the scenery.
Well, that afternoon, we drove south to take the HoloHolo catamaran sunset tour. We saw up close and personal the Napali coast that we had seen from up above that morning! What a great perspective. We too had a beautiful sunset, and pictures of the two of us old farts grinning like kids.
Aloha!

rncheryl - Thanks for sharing. Forgetting to take pix is actually a good idea on a chopper tour. The guy up front of us on the right was shooting non-stop, in fact he never put the camera down. After we landed, I asked him how many photos he took. I don't remember the exact number but it was about 250. I couldn't resist telling him that he had photographed everything but had seen NOTHING! And, quite honestly, he was a just a lousy photographer with an expensive digital SLR, snapping with no regard to lighting conditions, composition etc. - really a waste.

Craig: when we got back to Jack Harters after the flight, for some reason, the desk attendant gave us a copy of their "promotional" video taken from the helicopter/ WOW, their footage was what we encorporated most into our travel DVD.
Did you see spinner dolphins on your catamaran trip?

Thanks for your report, Craig.
We booked a sunset cruise our last time in Kauai and the weather was too rough so they cancelled. What attracted you to the HoloHolo cruise as opposed to the many others?

Kathie, Holo Holo was the top-rated cruise for this time of year (almost winter) in "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook". I think we would have seen more of the Napali Coast on a cruise from the north shore but we didn't want to deal with the possibility of rough waters at this time of year. "The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook" is a great resource, BTW.

Incidentally, Jeane and I were talking last night about the chopper tour and comparing it to the one we did over the Big Island 20 years ago. The Big Island tour was our first ever and that is the one that will continue to be burned into our memories for years to come - the sight of the lava from an active volcano pouring into the ocean was like none other.

Thanks Craig for your report. Always interesting seeing the islands through another pair of eyes. I guess we were flying choppers on different islands 20 yrs ago, lol.
Funny, about twenty yrs ago we were also watching the lava dump into the ocean at Kalapana but very close up, maybe 300 yards down the coast right at the waters edge. I don't know if I ever told you the story about us being burned by volcanic glass with the changing of the winds? Anyway, long story short, fantastic views but an awful experience. Hope you two return to the islands soon for a HI GTG, next years may be at Waikoloa!
