Cozumel do's and don'ts?

We are going to cozumel for a relaxing week of snorkeling and beach time. Are there any recomendations on places to eat? Also, does anyone recomend certain excursians? We have kids with us so we are not going diving this trip. We may snuba though. Has anyone ever tried that? Thanks!

Cozumel is not in the USA. You will get more responses by posting in the Latin America section.

Even though you are on the wrong board, I just want to tell you that Cozumel is TERRIFIC. I just loved it.

There are jeep excursions and Chankunuub is extremely user friendly for kids and adults. You will have a fabulous time and will be extremely relaxed as it is easy, easy to navigate.

You can take trips to the mainland to see ruins quite easily if you get bored.

Carlos and Charlie's (downstairs) is an entertaining place to eat (definitely a bit of a tourist trap, and geared towards young adults (big drinks, saucy waitstaff) - but I could see bringing kids there (and sitting near the entrance.) The waitstaff there makes it lots of fun. If you go later in the day, you'll find that the cruise ship crowd has to get back to the boat, so it'll be less hectic.

Get a pic of the kids in the monkey face cutout thing out front, even better, ask the host/hostess to take the picture (they even make that fun.)

Wish I had made it out of town, but we were on a very tight (cruise ship) schedule...Chankannaab (or however you spell it is supposed to be wonderful, even if you are not snorkeling.)

Funny you are on the USA board, because when we arrived our taxi driver spoke English immediately and said we were in the 51st State, Cozumel. I'm sure he was just trying to please us and joking- but he prefered dollars for the fare.

Also besides Chankanuub, which we went to for almost an entire day to snorkel and swim (you can swim with dolphins there also in these large fenced areas)-there are many shops. Some of the silver there was exceptional. Much better than the ships or other Mexican locations I've experienced.

If we would have been there longer we would have rented a jeep. There are many places for dining, you don't have to be in a bar environment if you don't want to.

Try to stay away from town when the cruise ships are in....it's insane- espically carlos n charlies. Every cruise ship passenger goes there. There are lots of beach clubs in cozumel which have restaurants, bars, bathrooms with showers, swimming pools and entertainment...lots of fun and very clean.

Also you should go to Passion Island, it is a boat ride from cozumel. It's a must see for a beautiful beach. I think that is where the corona beer commercials are filmed.

Also take a look at this site www.caribbeanportreviews.com it's for cruise ships but theres lots of info on cozumel, excursions, parks and beaches.

have fun!
