Cow Hollow or North Beach For San Francisco Stay?

I'm planning on an April visit to San Francisco with family and don't know the best area to stay. After reading through hours of threads, thanks to you all, I have narrowed my choices down to Cow Hollow/Marina or Northbeach. We are there for only one night and would love to choose a place where dinner, drinks and hotel are all in walking distance.
Any suggestions?

It depends on what you want to eat.

Northbeach is S.F's little Italy.

The Marina has Union Street which would probably provide trendy food.

Surprise to the regulars. I always recommend Cow Hollow, particularly Cow Hollow Suites or Motor Inn. But for just one night? And what you suggest by your post? I'd look at staying in North Beach, perhaps at the Washington Square Inn (is that the right name?) right next to Moose's. Nice area for walking around, plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, and you can stroll down to the water as well.

But you wouldn't go wrong in Cow Hollow either. I just think North Beach is probably a little more "uniquely" San Francisco.

I agree with Patrick on this: "it depends". Both are great areas and highly recommended. BUT..... 1)if you are in town 3 days or less then North Beach makes more sense 2) if you staying 3 days or more, then Cow Hollow.

I'll be staying at the Washington Square Inn the week of April 17.

Thanks so much. I been put in charge of the planning so want everything to be just perfect.
Can you guys recommend any great restaurants in these areas for a group of a dozen or so? Nothing fancy, we laid back and are just here for fun.
Also looking a great local bar for after dinner within walking distance.
Thanks again. I will check out that link to the Washington Square Inn right now.
