Looking for San Francisco Hotel around $80-90/night in North Beach or Financial District
Hello,
I am currently planning a trip to San Fran and need a reasonably inexpensive, clean hotel (no shared bathroom). I will be going March 17-21 2005. I did a search on Fodors through the previous posts but found that alot of the info was quite outdated already. I have never been to SF so I am hoping this is a reasonable expectation (not sure).
Would appreciate any advice you can give on a hotel with these specifications.
Thanks!

I believe you can manage that at the Columbus Motor Inn on the edge of North Beach.
We prefer the Cow Hollow area where sister properties to that are located -- Cow Hollow Motor Inn, Chealse, etc. All are nice, clean, uninspired but reasonable properties.

Thank you Patrick, I will research your suggestions further. Can you tell me why you prefer the Cow Hollow area? As I said I have never been to SF so I really don't have a good idea of what the different neighbourhoods are like.

Cow Hollow is an area near the Marina District, about halfway out to Golden Gate Bridge. It's a residential area mainly of 30/40 somethings -- yuppies if you will. (I'm past that stage, but it makes me feel young to stay there). Think of a couple streets of Pottery Barn, Victoria's Secret, various boutiques, and dozens of nice smallish neighborhood bars and restaurants. If you don't have a car, you can hop on the bus which runs about every 12 minutes and it takes you right past Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, Union Square, and ends below Market Street -- which is pretty much anywhere you are likely to want to go.

There's a nice Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf, on Columbus. Well-located, clean, not too expensive. We've stayed there before- and if you work for the state or federal government, you can get a really good rate. Check it out on Holiday Inn's website or Expedia.
