country dancing?

My hubby and I will be traveling in Texas after Christmas; San Antonio, Houston, and maybe Corpus Chiristi.
Are there in any good country dancing places in any of these areas?

San Antonio has the Far West Rodeo nightclub at I-35 and 410. It is a lot of fun! One weekends, they usually have a live band, and they also have a mechanical bull that you can ride.

I'm not sure about Corpus Christi and Houston. Anyone?

There is the town of Gruene (pronounced "green") just north of San Antonio very close to New Braunfels which has a dance hall. Started as a dance hall in the mid 1800s and alot of now famous people played there when they were just getting started (Lyle Lovett, for one) Of course, if it's still open, there's the famous Gilley's in Pasedena (south of Houston)

Gilley's was in Pasadena, Texas, but has burned downed several times and I don't think it's ever been rebuilt (thank goodness). For San Antonio, I too recommend Far West Rodeo. You can find more info about them at http://www.123sanantonio.net/attract...est-rodeo.html As for Houston, this is such a large town with a very active nightlife that you'd have to narrow down the area of town you'll be in. To travel from one side of town to the other takes at least an hour ... when traffic is good. Sorry, but there has never been anything in Corpus Christi to keep me there long enough to explore the dance halls. I would recommend you spend your time in the hill country between San Antonio and Austin instead of in Corpus.

Gilley's has actually been rebuilt in Dallas, of all places. I haven't been there yet, but it is a smaller club than the original.

I second the suggestion to spend more time in the Hill Country instead of Corpus and Houston...
