Count your Blessings!!!
I just want everyone on this board to count there blessings that they are able to take these nice vacations, some 2-3 times a year. I used to be able to travel like that, but now my finances are not allowing me too. I'm going to really miss my yearly vacations. It gets soooo sad.... because I LOVE to travel. I read this board and it get really down!!
Just be greatful and thankful that you can travel the way you like. Please count your blessings...and cherish every minute of your vacations...

You need to work on your attitude -- reading stories here (and the internet in general) should be tools to make you happy instead of down. Even if you were never able to travel again in your life, wouldn't you rather be able to experience vicarious feelings than nothing at all?
Many, many persons can never travel again, but find ways to still enjoy it through TV, movies, magazines, family stories, internet, dreams.

count your blessing you would not be my mother would you (a favorite phrase of hers). Thing is annoymous whatever you are reading here does not have to be constant for people. I have times in my life where I travel and times that I don't. For those that do have constant sources of money blah blah blah well that is their luck, path whatever you want to call. I don't go to the European board when I know it is not a posibility for me. Same with Thailand, Polynesian islands because that brings me down. Thing is most of us can hop on a bus 10+ hours in any direction and see something incredible (I don't drive). I suggest you do this when you feel like you have no money. I have and it is great. I have also camped, youth hosteled, family hosteled ect. It is all in your hands just got to find the budget that is right for you.

All right, anonymous, I'm always trying to find some hidden silver lining in any bad circumstance.
Here's one for you.
I, too, have always really loved to travel. I couldn't afford to do it and didn't have the time until well after I finished grad school. Eventually I literally went everywhere in the world I always wanted to go, travelling up to 8 weeks a year.
You know what?
I don't enjoy it nearly as much now.
I would enjoy and appreciate it more if I had a period of time (more than 3 years I expect) during which I couldn't travel.
It's just like sitting down to a big meal when you're really hungry. By the end, you're not enjoying it as much as when you sat down.
I suspect you'll be able to travel again in the future, at some point.
Perhaps make some dream lists and plot some loose details for a trip you'll take one day.
Eventually you'll go.
And you'll enjoy it that much more because you'll appreciate it that much more.

If travel is important to you, you can find a way to make it happen. Sell your car and bus to work. Apply for a job as a flight attendant. Stop buying lattes, brown bag your lunch and put that extra money aside for a trip. Save all of your change (most people end up with $10-$30 per week in loose change) -- then take a trip at the end of the year. Or cancel your monthly internet access and use the library instead -- that's $20 a month towards your vacation.
If you want it badly enough, you can make it happen. You just might have to make some sacrifices.
