Cottage rentals in Kauai??
We are planning on spending a week in Kauai as part of our honeymoon. We'd like to rent a cottage or house on the water and either on or very near a nice beach. Anyone have any suggestions of places or websites? Thanks.

Kauai being our favorite place in the world and private rentals our favorite accomodations, I will gladly share with you some places that look good to me. We have reserved the first house for our July trip this summer. (For more ideas, type "vacation rental + Kauai" in Google or any search engine and you will get thousands of hits.) Good luck! Hope you find what you are looking for.

vbro we stayed at two places same owner in Hanalei. It is half a block from the beach. If you are on the water you want to make sure you are not near public parking or PUBLIC ACCESS BEACH Path. It does not happen all the time but some times kids or career surfers will have a bonfire and keep you up. Happened to us in Lanikai, Oahu. Saw it happening to other beachfronters in Hanalei I was glad we were off the beach. But of course I can understand the allure of beachfront holiday. Just check out the location with us here online. Also if you want to beable to walk out and swim make sure you are on a swimming beach, not all beaches are swimming beaches.

This is my favorite place. Intimate, beautiful. Many of the cottages you find are in communities with houses right next to you although you can't see them from the pictures.

This is the oldest -- and IMHO the most reliable and professional -- vacation rental company on this island. They rent everything from cottages to castles, all over Kaua`i:

On the north shore, I can also personally recommend:
http://www.kauai-vacation-rentals.com/
http://www.napaliprop.com
The state of Hawai`i requires that all vacation rental agents must be licensed real estate agents. This is protection for the owner of the property, as well as the renter. Not required, however, for owners who personally rent out their own property.

That would be my choice if I were going to stay in Princeville bmsptc. Just know that you have to hike down to the beach, you are not walking right out to the water the way you might in Hanalei. Still you can have some incredible views and it is a nice little complex up there in Princeville. Again if it is important to you find out if the beach in front of your complex is a swimming beach. I am pretty sure you will have access to Hideaways beach and the beach in front of the Princeville. For access to the later you will go through the Princeville hotel and elevator down to the beach.
One thing I like about your location is that you can go to the Princeville hotel when they do an afternoon hula. I would also check out the Friday night Seafood buffet. The views from the Princeville are absolutely breath taking. You also shave some time off adventures to the west when you are in Princeville, only 10 minutes but 10 minutes is a lot to this NYer

sorry confused your location with the Pua Poa in Princeville. If you are going in Summer you really want to be in Princeville in my opinion. Poipu is great for winter, sorry don't know that spot you are talking about but someone else might come on as I pop up this thread.

My memory of the Poipu beach house cottage is that it is across the street from the beach. I think the street gets some traffic from the condos further along, though it is not especially busy. The beach is fairly popular and will tend to have lots of families during the day.
