So racism is a Southern thing? I guess Wee Burn Country Club in Darien, Ct must be confused then... Oh wait, that must be SOUTHERN Connecticut.

Louise, I dont know what type of response you were hoping to elicit, but I sincerely doubt it was travel related as it should be on this board. I've read your post twice and I still dont know what response you're looking for.
You're asking a entire board, who by the way have know idea what color each other are nor care, what some woman's comment might have implied or meant?
I dont know, dear, I wasn't there to talk to the lady.

You seem like a nice person and I dont like to be unkind to nice people, but I'm really not seeing this as travel related or something we can help you with. If your point was "Minorities dont feel welcome in MB" well, thats different, but thats not how you concluded your post in the least.

I'm a native South Carolinian, and don't want to live anywhere else. Wouldn't mind traveling more, though. <grin>

Have lived all over the US (during my career) and found vestiges of racism there also. And as has already been pointed out, it exists most feverently in blue-collar, lower-educated areas.

So if you don't like the "blue collar" feel of Myrtle Beach, try Kiawah, Isle of Palms, Edisto or Hilton Head.

But if you insist on an "everybody-loves-everybody else" place, I have no clue where to go.

I don't think it's fair to call a post stupid because it's an uncomfortable topic for a lot of people. It seems perfectly legitimate to me.

So martytravels....tell me, what does the Confederate Flag and racism have to do with travel?????
It is an inappropriate post for a TRAVEL forum.

THe poster was detailing her experiences on a vacation. She's talking about Myrtle Beach as a vacation destination. People post their good and bad experiences in a particular place on this site all the time.

you know martytravels.....the poster has already done a trip report on Myrtle Beach...Why not include it in the original trip report instead of making it a separate post....unless of course, you just like controversey!!
This particular thread has done nothing but aggravate and agitate a lot of people. Many peoples posts including mine, gotravel, obxgirl and I'm sure others that I missed have been deleted...
So, here's my point.....I don't have to read this......and will not click on this thread again.....sorry, i let someone upset me so.....
Now, martytravels, go read her trip report and see how she reacted at the airport when she was not allowed to take a beach umbrella on the plane.

you can tell the OP goal was to stir up controversy when the last word was "all comments welcome".

But I will bite..The constitution gives people the right to fly whichever flag they want. As awful as it may seem, the confederate flag stood for more than slavery. This is not a history class,so I wont elaborate.

I can appreciate why people would not visit a region that does fly a flag that offends them, and the constitution gives the right to travel elsewhere if they so please.

Doc, you're probably right. Travel was the last thing on her mind when she posted this.
