Conde Nast Traveler or Travel and Leisure magazine?

Which do you prefer and why? My subscription to CNT is up and I am thinking of T&L instead. Thanks!

I have subscribed to both for years, but prefer T and L. It is more practical advice and has more information on nonluxury destinations. I must admit, the issue of CNT with the Panama article was wonderful. I love Panama and they really did it justice.

I get both and I prefer T&L as well. More advice on places that I can afford. While I love reading CNT's articles on these exotic little Sri Lankan bungalows, it's more helpful to me to read about the newest hip places in Chicago or even Budapest, places I'm more likely to visit.

Thank you - I think I'll switch to T&L. I love reading the "Top 10" lists, but would like more broad coverage of both luxury and affordable destinations.

I alternate among them each year... Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler & Arthur Frommers Budget Travel. I really like to look at Travel & Leisure the best of all, but find it has the most expensive and least practical suggestions, as far as any where I personally would actually be able to go. Budget Travel is the only one I truly use the tips and hotel listings from.

Hi novias, interesting thread has I have subscribed to CNT for years, and just decided last month that I am not going to renew my subscription.

I think that no matter how interesting a magazine is that after awhile one needs a change.

I will probably suscribe to T&L when my CNT subscription expires.

I love Traveler, Vogue, and Vanity Fair but they are all so out of my league.

Does anyone else ever get the feeling that Conde Nast writes for wealthy New Yorkers and West Coasters only?

I subscribe to many magazines; the only travel one is National Geographic. I gave up on Outside, which isn't really a travel mag, but used to give me great ideas. Now they seem to go too far off the beaten path.

Town and Country has a new travel magazine. I enjoyed the first issue.

Conde Nast does like, what, one issue dedicated to domestic travel a year? As long as you like reading about travel to Vietnam, Myanmar, Lapland, Mali, and Lesotho the rest of the time, you'll be fine.

I agree with GoTravel and Phan. Guess that is why I have found CNT boring this past year and will not renew my subscription.

Another vote for Budget Travel. I believe its parent company is MSNBC. It's excellent and always has many practical ideas.

i'd like to disagree. this year cnt has written really interesting pieces on ethical travel and as the above person mentioned panama and they have a regular column on airlines. i find travel and leisure very "bandwagon" oriented - and conde nast helpful in learning about places i might never visit. their annual best hotels and gold list i save all year and it's worth the $12 or whatever just for those lists that i refer to all the time when i'm about to travel.

I used to get both, but dropped Conde Nast -- it became too high end for me. In one of the final issues, I went through looking at all their articles and even the multi page spread of "special hotel news". I found that not one hotel they mentioned gave a price of under $400 a night for a room -- and mostly those were in their "special deals" section!

Exactly Patrick, the very reason I am not renewing CNT. As GoTravel said - for wealthy east coast and west coast travlers evidently. It has gotten out my league.

Another differing opinion here - that's why they make vanilla AND chocolate.
I find T+L to be little more than an extended commercial for American Express and its various products and partners, and plan to not renew my subscription. As to the affordability factor of featured destinations, neither publication exactly targets the backpacking set, but in general I find CNT more practically oriented, have restaretd my subscription.

I like 'em all!
Thank goodness for eBay. I am able to afford subscriptions for just about any magazine I want. I currently get WAY too many per month but I just cannot resist the bargain and I am an avid reader.
Go to eBay and search for 'Conde Nast Subscription' (or whatever magazine) and check out the prices.
I have ordered over 25 subscriptions in the past year using eBay and have never had a service issue.
Sometimes the prices are jusk OK... but sometimes they are spectacular.

Between the twom I'd take T&L. I like reading about exotic places and most of my travel is outside the US, but Conde Nast is just too "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" for me. Everytime I pick one up, I hear Robin Leech narrating.

Actually, my favorite is National Geographic Traveler. And I do plan to go to Laos and Mali in my lifetime, so it's probably a sensible choice of magazines for me. Still, there are some good domestic and European destinations highlighted often.

I loved CNT and the Ombudsman but after a while it seemed all the Letters to the Editor started out with, "while traveling round the world last week", "as I was shopping in Hong Kong", or "while on our extended jaunt to Maccu Pinchu", it just started to depress me.

I'm thinking, okay, I went to Myrtle Beach for Bike Week last week.

I didn't renew my subscription.

Some of the articles were fabulous such as a very memorable one about the Amazon and the rainy season.

I can't afford the Aman Resorts.
