Adding to Abby43's list, there is Roosevelt University, all the City Colleges of Chicago, and the University of Illinois campus at Chicago. There is Rush Medical School, Northwestern University Medical School, John Marshall Law School. Check out this website for dozens more.

Here's a question, addressed to the Chicago people... what are your beaches like?

For example, what is the daytime water temperature in the summer... say July or August?

Do you do a lot of swimming? When does the season begin? Are there specific beach resorts or do you just use the park beaches? Do you get chilled after 20-30 minutes or can you spend all day in the water?

Granted, Chicago is not competing with Honolulu or Miami as a resort destination, but on the other hand, the lakeside parks are a good amenity for the city. Want to tell me about it?

Here's a NYC story- true.

I go to professional baseball games all over- less in the last 2 years, but more than some. This was Septemberish 2000, the year before 9/11.

I am a White Sox fan. This was the second Yankees game in two days I attended in the Bronx. Our guys just happen to be on a roll right then and by the 4 th inning of the second day after the first day's loss- the Yankee fans around us were rabidly yelling derogatories at their own players. Something I have never see on this kind of scale before. And by the 5th and 6th innings most of them left.

This would never happen in Chicago. First of all we are far, far more positive and optimistic on the whole- sometimes ridiculously so. And second we have NEVER been so arrogantly sure of coming in first that we have taken it for granted to that extent.

And this is also true. There was a girl about 25 with a STRONG NYC accent who came up to me and told me that I had a "smidge" on my cheek and then proceeded to wipe it off (with like a swipe) with her hand. I was stunned. It was not malicious, but I've never had a stranger deal with physical proximity like that ever before in my life. And NYC people seem to be able to block out visions of garbage pills at will. I can not do that, nor can most South Siders- despite our rep of living in the "ghetto".

And I could tell ALL kinds of 79th St (Rainbow Beach) stories, but I won't.

You don't want to come here anyway. And of course Lake Michigan is cool at the best. When there is a lunar eclipse you can almost surf. Great Lakes are not like salt water. I prefer spring fed lakes myself for swimming, but it is A WHOLE LOT BETTER than some glacier lakes, like Lake Tahoe.
