Coit Tower WPA murals

I love WPA murals...wondering if it is worth the hassel to see the ones on Coit Tower when we visit. Do you pay to see the murals? How much? Thanks...

You pay to go up into the tower, but the murals and surroundings are free. If you love WPA murals, it is definitely worth you effort to see the ones in Coit Tower (and the neighborhood and view are also worthwhile).

Why do you think it will be a hassel? You can take a bus up and back, or walk down the stairway walk -- something we wanted to do, but didn't have time. There is a great view even if you don't pay to go up into the tower. You may even get to see the Wild Parrots of Telgraph Hill.

I had read that it was VERY busy up there and lots of lines. I didn't know the bus would drop you off up there...that certainly would make it easier than walking that far...

We visited the Coit Tower in April at about 8pm when it was dark. It was an amzing view from the Tower and one of the highlights of our trip. We walked there from our restaurant at North Beach and then walked back to our hotel at Columbus Motor Inn afterwards a nice stroll.

We were there in the spring, on a weekday, and it wasn't all that crowded. No *hassle* at all.

Sorry, I don't want to discourage bebalm from visiting Coit Tower; however, if time is limited and if one is walking there on a hot day, it would be a hassle to visit Coit Tower.

Coit Tower is a good place to visit, but it is not equal on my list to walking up Filmore Street for the views from Pacific Heights or several other San Francisco experiences I could mention.

I tend to agree with you in general, but since bebalm says s/he loves WPA murals, Coit Tower should, IMO, be on his/her list.
