There really aren't any festivities - other than people get off work and head for the local bar and drink Corona or Dos XX.

From Wiki:

Dos Equis is a Mexican beer that was originally brewed by the German brewer Wilhelm Hasse in 1897. The brand was named "Siglo XX" ("20th century") to commemorate the arrival of the new century, and the bottles were marked with the Roman numerals "XX", or "Dos Equis" (two Xs).

Wait until OP learns about "El dia de la muerte" or "Day of the Dead" in Mexico. He'll have to plan another trip - lol!

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) just to give him a heads up is Noviembre de una y dos.

It like Halloween or All Saints Day and is very big in Mexico and many Latin countries.

Sorry for the incorrect Spanish Nana, the Spanish gets rusty fast, but at least you knew what I meant!

Well, of course, in the Northern Hemisphere it is celebrated on May 5. In the Southern Hemisphere it is celebrated on Sept. 5 due to the fact that in the S. H. everything is opposite. And in the celebratory dances, the twirling is in the opposite direction. And as my old Mama' always said "Buen viaje."
